See more Michael D @MichaelX 3 days ago Three acting powerhouses, Robert De Niro, Adam Scott, and Michelle Monaghan, are somewhat wasted in this middling Netflix serial killer thriller, based on Alex North’s bestselling airport paperback of the same name. I haven’t read the book and can’t compare, but the film needs to stand on its own, and it only just barely does. It’s genuinely creepy and the ending surprised me, which counts for something. But the plot holes are gaping: why does a recent widower need such an enormous house in his late wife’s hometown, and how does he happen to land the very house central to an earlier case? De Niro is fine if a bit underdemanded, Scott is reliably excellent, and Monaghan wasted. Think of a decent CBS procedural with a bigger budget and better hair. Damning with faint praise, perhaps, but if you’re a fan of any of the three leads, you could probably do considerably worse. See more Sabrina W @Sabrina114 3 days ago First half of the movie was great. Perfect acting, good thriller vibe, couldn't keep my eyes off the screen. But the second part got worse every second. Police response simply doesn't exist in the movie, the killer somehow is stronger and more agile than a condecorated ex detective, an actual detective AND the boy's father, even tho he is just a skinny weak weird dude. Also the fighting scenes are AWFUL, all they did was hug the fucking guy. Those things ruined the end of the movie. See more Read all reviews
