Too often this feels like a home movie, or cosy clips montage, for family members only. Go to Full Review

There is a kind of lonely heroism here, and who can tell if, in this digitised world where recordings are so easily available, that his views might not come into fashion? A strong, unassuming picture. Go to Full Review

A sincere, sometimes uneven attempt to bridge gaps—between father and son, between past and present, between art as lived experience and art as something shaped for an audience. Go to Full Review

Jon M @volcano1946 15 hrs ago This is an inspiring biopic. While many viewers may not have heard of Sergiu Celibidache, this is an opportunity to learn about a man who was probably the most talented conductor of his era and a great human being. Beautifully shot and written with actors that are performing at their peak. Captivating from beginning to end. See more DIANE B @DEE21 23 hrs ago Captivating from the first scene to the end Production and direction brilliant, as is the cinematography Can't praise this film too highly. A true reflection of a genius at work See more Maria B @MariaB75 1 day ago For a Romanian of my generation who witnessed Sergiu Celibidache’s flamboyant live concert in 1970s Bucharest, The Yellow Tie was a must-watch. Starring John Malkovich and Ben Schnetzer, and directed by the maestro’s son, Serge Ioan Celebidachi, the biopic perfectly captures Celibidache’s fierce artistic independence and his lifelong rebellion against commercializing the unique artistic moment. Most importantly, it brilliantly recreates the electrifying energy of his live performances. Filmed entirely in Bucharest, with concerts performed at the legendary Romanian Athenaeum alongside prestigious local orchestras, its soundtrack is superb. Even for those unfamiliar with Celibidache's tumultuous life and career, this film will profoundly resonate. As a universal language, music transcends borders, social status, affinities, and affiliations. In these times of cultural vandalism, we are far better off soaking in music, poetry, and art. The Yellow Tie does exactly that.Highly recommended. See more Dan F @DFreviews 1 day ago Regardless of whether or not you know the story of renowned conductor Sergiu Celibidache and his musical beliefs, The Yellow Tie will leave you feeling moved and compelled by his convictions. The Yellow Tie avoids typical pitfalls of biographical stylised narratives, whilst portraying a man unshakeable in his beliefs. The film filled me with admiration for Celibidache’s defiant approach and fervent endeavours through beautifully scripted and impeccable performances from a prestigious cast. Characters are believable and relatable, and you cannot help but become invested in the story as it unfolds. The cinematography is sublimely refined, balancing narrative and aesthetic with a sophisticated elegance that is breathtaking. The Yellow Tie is remarkable in its use of music, with a presence that is both vital and grandiose in beautifully emphasising Celibidache’s vehemence. Films of The Yellow Tie’s caliber are rare. Miss this one and you’ll really be doing yourself a disservice. See more Michelle M @MichiM 4 days ago A WONDERFUL MOVIE! CHECK OUT MY REVIEW ON SUBSTACK: MICHI PUBLICATION.
