If Hofmann doesn't deliver a payoff quite worthy of his premise, "Time Share" remains an arresting, electric tease; edgier arthouse distributors should book themselves in.
The movie peddles in paranoia, but is too tedious to make a lasting effect.
Time Share proves a cinematically arresting psychological thriller that succeeds in keeping viewers on edge even if it doesn't give them much to mull over afterwards.
An intriguing film that's different from much of the work coming out of Mexico. I just wish the project hadn't hesitated to go a little deeper into the darkness.
Some profanity in edgy, offbeat Mexican satire/drama.
It's got its flaws, but if you pay close attention, Time Share is an entertaining squirm-fest.
Hofmann knows how to leave us with a feeling of pent up discomfort and unease at the world and the characters he's created. It's an unsettled, ruffling experience of imperfect humans trapped in a world where they seem doomed.
Hofmann makes no attempt to hide the devil in the details.
"A brilliant dark comedy" (Complete review in Spanish in the Mexican newspaper Reforma)
In the future we hope that this director can define much more his own style, because at the moment his career promises a lot. [Full Review in Spanish]
The award-winning film at Sundance also gives us the chance to see a Luis Gerardo Méndez away from his comfort zone, in a role that reminds us of the talent he has and that we would like to see more on the screen. [Full Review in Spanish]
There is much to love about Sebastián Hofmann's disquieting Time Share... But this is a puzzle that becomes increasingly complex - so much so that by the end, it leads to some befuddlement.
