It’s not Noah’s funniest hour. And your specific enlightenment and enjoyment may depend upon how much you know your history, as well as how much you want to know it. Go to Full Review

Jule Z @Jule1710 1d Had to watch this in school, which pretty much sums up the show: felt more like a lecture with a few lukewarm jokes thrown in than an actual comedy special. What made it worse was that it wouldn't even have made for a good lecture. Noah seemed to remember every now and then that he was supposed to make people laugh, which isn't easy when you're working with a dry topic. He tried to solve this by taking things out of context/leave out facts. E.g. one of his "best jokes" revolved around the German national anthem. He repeatedly expressed disbelief that they would change the lyrics after the defeat of the Nazis to symbolize a new era, yet keep the melody. If he had bothered to do a bit of research, he would have known that Germany didn't actually change its national anthem, they simply stopped singing the first two verses. To be fair, maybe he already knew that and just realized it wouldn't make for as good a joke. But that's the problem when you try to force something to be funny. See more matthias s @Thescreenasvor 09/23/2024 *Trevor Noah: Where Was I* is a solid introduction to his stand-up, especially if you’ve only seen him on *The Daily Show* like I had. He shines with his incredible accents and impersonations, and his knack for smart, biting satire comes through in several parts. I cried laughing during his Star Wars bit, and the Sweet Caroline and swimming jokes were a real treat. That said, there are pacing issues—he tends to dwell on the same topics a bit too much, which slows things down. It feels like he's clearly talented, but the material wasn't as varied as I'd hoped. Overall, it’s enjoyable but not his strongest performance. Three stars! See more Milad T @Lilmil 01/25/2024 Good structure. Very few laughs. Segues are seamless. Overall, Trevor is more of an educator in this than a comedian, which will rub the right people the wrong way. See more Read all reviews
