The thing that I cherish most about this movie is the devotion to atmosphere. It’s spooky and stark, set in the woods of New England and it just feels like Halloween.

What kind of world do we owe our kids? How can we best prepare them to live in it after we’re gone? In Shyamalan's Knock At The Cabin, the cost of a safer world is great personal sacrifice. The Village places that burden on the next generation too.

People obviously miss the entire point of this movie. It's not meant to shake your to the core or scare the hell out of you. The storyline between the three leads is critical and shows the many layers of the human condition....when technology is absent. Truly a wonderful story that has gotten better with age as we spiral into the digital morass.

So I remember when THE VILLAGE was released to scathing reviews. Now when I look at rotten tomatoes they showed around 50% tile. You have got to be kidding me. This is one of the most ridiculous films I have ever seen. Boring as hell, pointless and utterly ridiculous. I’ll never understand why people think they have to support bad films because of a director or because of a look that it has. If it’s a bad script it’s a bad movie. People need to take some kind of film making classes or screenplay writing classes so you can learn what it is you are critiquing. The village is pure crap.

I could never really identify what story this movie was trying to tell. The all-star cast gave amazing performances, but the story and execution did not support them at all. The dialogue felt really forced throughout the movie, and Joaquin Phoenix whispering his lines definitely did not help. The scenery and visuals of the movie were beautiful, and M. Night Shyamalan did an amazing job producing an eerie yet breathtaking atmosphere. I'd recommend this for drama fans, but it's not the best movie I've ever seen. Bryce Dallas Howard's character is apparently blind, but I had no idea this detail existed until about halfway through the movie.
