Movie Info

Diana Prince lives quietly among mortals in the vibrant, sleek 1980s -- an era of excess driven by the pursuit of having it all. Though she's come into her full powers, she maintains a low profile by curating ancient artifacts, and only performing heroic acts incognito. But soon, Diana will have to muster all of her strength, wisdom and courage as she finds herself squaring off against Maxwell Lord and the Cheetah, a villainess who possesses superhuman strength and agility.

  • A serviceable sequel, elevated by its radiant leading lady and an over-the-top villain.

  • Very sweet and very fun. I think some of the stunts are a little bit dumb, but I had a lot of watching this.

  • I assume there will be a sequel to this sequel. If so, no complaint from me, especially if Wiig and Pascal are in it.

  • Gadot as Wonder Woman -- or Diana Prince, as she's more commonly known -- may be the single best piece of casting in a superhero role since Christopher Reeve first donned the cape and spandex of the Man of Steel.

    December 28, 2020 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…
  • It's a refreshingly silly and airy adventure focused on the emotions of one character, Wonder Woman (played by Gal Gadot), and a charming end to a tiring year of cinema.

    December 28, 2020 | Full Review…
  • It just feels so over the top, hammy, and unearned. It doesn't feel lovingly hammy, it feels accidentally cheesy.

Audience Reviews for Wonder Woman 1984

The beginning of the film including the mall scene almost played like a campy tribute to the beginning of Superman III. The writing was atrocious and the storyline overall was boring. Almost felt like DC's attempt at a Days of Future Past period film and fell flat on its face. The Cheetah CGI was almost as good as the Superman non-mustache. Action sequences in the back half of the film saved this from a lower score. If you liked Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, and the smell of fresh dog poop, this movie is for you....

It's a stronger film than its predecessor and compared to recent superhero films it's one of the more engaging (which unfortunately isn't saying much). What works are Kristen Wiig's performance and character development (the real highlight of the film), the combination of setting and aesthetics (1980s DC was done well and looked good), and an impressive final battle. What doesn't work are the elements that plague all superhero films: thin writing, cliches, an uneven tone, and abundant cheesiness (it's hard to watch without rolling your eyes at least twice). What's fascinating is that the least interesting part of the film is the heroine - the titular character; Wiig's more grisly, grounded, cynical character, however, makes the film worth experiencing.
