Westworld isn't your typical amusement park. Intended for rich vacationers, the futuristic park -- which is looked after by robotic "hosts" -- allows its visitors to live out their fantasies through artificial consciousness. No matter how illicit the fantasy may be, there are no consequences for the park's guests, allowing for any wish to be indulged. "Westworld" is based on the 1973 Michael Crichton movie of the same name and features an all-star cast.

Instead of being an authentic exploration and critique of white supremacy, Westworld only enforces it. Go to Full Review

It's not yet clear, despite the quality acting and special effects in this "Westworld," that the story offers anything new. Go to Full Review

Westworld has all the action, adventure, and intrigue of the ideal Western film, but that's all a veneer for tourists, under which lies a rich maze of philosophy, science fiction, and genre criticism. Go to Full Review

While Crichton's classic was meant to be a fast-paced entertainer, HBO's Westworld pauses to reflect upon deeper philosophical conundrums, with disaster simmering underneath. Go to Full Review

Whilst the series is a re-imagining and inspired by the 1973 cult classic film, Westworld the TV series certainly stamps its own authority with beautiful and intelligent concepts not too dissimilar from our own existence and reality. Go to Full Review

Aldis H @plever Mar 24 Its high concept conceit feeds upon itself until it makes absolutely no sense, and that's just the first season, which I somehow got to the end of, not really sure how. Rife with some of the largest plot holes, incongruities and nonsensicalities I've ever encountered. It took four seasons for the viewership to catch up to its ridiculousness. It lost over 80% and was cancelled on a "massive cliffhanger." FIrst thing I do with any TV show that has had its run is look up whether it had an ending. Duh. See more Lancelot O @Upbeat_New_guy Mar 4 It's an interesting performance that's elevated by performances of a handful of actors and the production value. Everything else creates issues or acts as a distraction/gimmick to cover up what can only be described as pretentious and shallow writing. Themes are pretty straight forward throughout: what is consciousness/perception of reality, the burden of creation in the technological age, rich people am bad (unironically). The themes however never really get explored, and are diluted and obscured by wordy wax-philosophy monologs, gimmicks in editing (especially non-linear storytelling that's used so often as a gotcha on the viewer, you're never along for the ride fully), and worst of all, a collage of plot holes and massive leaps in logic so the story can deliver dramatic Nolan story beats. It's hollow 60% of the time, lacks self-awareness, and avoids establishing rules for fear of the stakes. See more alexander a @Aalvarez2007 Feb 21 It's a great substitute for Ambien.
