If “1883,” Sheridan’s most perfectly formed series, was his “Godfather,” then “1923” is his “Godfather Part II”: sprawling, even scattershot, but an extraordinary personal statement painted on the largest possible canvas. Go to Full Review

The consistently shallow and clichéd writing often fades away under the production value of “1923” and the sheer scope of what Sheridan and his team are attempting. Go to Full Review

If there is no Season 3 then this series was neatly wrapped. Go to Full Review

...“1923” is more of the same meat and potatoes that Sheridan generally delivers, but thanks to Ford, Mirren and standouts like Sklenar, Schlaepfer, and Randolph, it’s generally compelling TV, not to mention ambitious in its scope. Go to Full Review

KaiserSoze 6 @RT91048057 May 24 Exceptional storytelling, writing, acting. Exceptional series. Some people hate it because it is sad, well life was rough back then, not everything had a happy ending. Plus, if you follow the entire Yellowstone arc, this fits right in, tragedy has always plagued the Dutton family. See more JAM T @RT00754433 May 21 SPOILERS AHEAD 1923 is tragedy porn. Every tragedy in a story must be justified somehow, from a writing standpoint. The Marshal running the kid over and cold blood is a great example. If a writer is going to put the audience through the trauma of seeing a child killed in cold blood, then there had better be a damn good reason, and there had better be justice and accountability for it later. Instead, the priest just shoots him? There were just too many tragedies, many of which had no resolution - which leaves the audience feeling frustrated and depressed. It's a writing flaw. Don't get me started on Teonna's story - they could have stopped with the first sheep herder getting killed and it still would have been tragic enough. For me the show really showed poor writing when the aristocratic English couple froze to death - not only was it too much, but it didn't make sense. I could go on, but the show was basically tragedy porn, in the worst possible way. See more renee G @reneecg1972 Apr 14 I enjoyed this show, but it got super depressing at the end. See more Marco L @decatur555 Apr 11 1923 is a well-made and often impressive series, but it never reached the emotional level of Yellowstone or 1883 for me. It has all the visible strengths you would expect from Taylor Sheridan’s universe: strong production value, striking cinematography, major scale, and a cast led by Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, who both bring real authority and presence. The problem is that, despite all that quality, the story often feels too predictable. The tension is there, the visual ambition is there, but I rarely felt truly surprised or deeply moved. Some storylines take too long to pay off, and the drama does not always match the weight of the presentation. It is still very watchable and clearly well crafted, but it feels more notable than unforgettable. See more Sara H @SARAtops Mar 8 Impeccable. Absolutely stunning.
