John B @RT38055268 Sep 6, 2026 A tale of two seasons: The first season of 1923 is a contender for the best season of Yellowstone universe, it has the early 20th century done really well with the changing landscape and innovation meeting the Wild West. The plot starting in Africa really was a throwback to golden eras and gave the feeling ‘they don’t make them like this anymore’. Unfortunately, season 2 needed to finish the story of season 1 but really dropped the ball with bad editing. A number of scene transitions involved an abrupt sound stop then a sharp restart with no transition. A cut to black or a transition sound could have fixed it, this is coming from someone not trained in production. Even sounds from a DJ sample pack would have worked. Without this downgrade, season 2 would have just had a script and character actions that tailed off towards the end, which went for realism over the happy ending but was uneven. I doubt Sheridan and seniors directly edited all in s2 so I’d guess new guys had ownership. See more Alex F @Technoskeptical Sep 3, 2026 Season 1 was great. Season 2 devolved into an endless gauntlet of misery. Almost every likeable character suffered horribly and/or died violently - usually as a direct result of trying to help someone else. Victor Frankl taught that we can bear any suffering as long as it has meaning; sadly, Season 2 delivered suffering without meaning, without reward, and, ultimately, without a satisfying resolution. See more Will B. @WillieB Jun 17, 2026 Only in Hollywood could a sweeping, beautifully crafted love story — a story built on courage, loyalty, and the fight to preserve a family’s legacy — be dragged down by the kind of gratuitous, juvenile sexual content that adds nothing and cheapens everything. Sheridan takes a narrative with real emotional weight and stains it with unnecessary S&M-style scenes that demean women and derail the tone. It’s as if the writing can’t trust the power of its own story, so it reaches for shock value aimed at the pubescent male mind. And in doing so, it undercuts the very dignity, depth, and humanity that made the Spencer–Alexandra arc so compelling in the first place. Some people hate it because it is sad, well life was rough back then, not everything had a happy ending. Plus, if you follow the entire Yellowstone arc, this fits right in, tragedy has always plagued the Dutton family. See more JAM T @RT00754433 May 21, 2026 SPOILERS AHEAD 1923 is tragedy porn. Every tragedy in a story must be justified somehow, from a writing standpoint. The Marshal running the kid over and cold blood is a great example. If a writer is going to put the audience through the trauma of seeing a child killed in cold blood, then there had better be a damn good reason, and there had better be justice and accountability for it later. Instead, the priest just shoots him? There were just too many tragedies, many of which had no resolution - which leaves the audience feeling frustrated and depressed. It's a writing flaw. Don't get me started on Teonna's story - they could have stopped with the first sheep herder getting killed and it still would have been tragic enough. For me the show really showed poor writing when the aristocratic English couple froze to death - not only was it too much, but it didn't make sense.
