News & Interviews for 2 Dope Queens: Season 1
With "2 Dope Queens," Williams and Robinson have found a formula that works very well for them - and it just might work out for everyone else, too.
It has taken this show three years to hit British screens, which is a shame. But it's worth catching up with, especially at the moments when funny, clever women such as Michelle Buteau stick it to The Man.
In the four stand-up shows, the duo candidly banter onstage, which makes for effective commentary, particularly about race.
2 Dope Queens goes to show that taking podcasts to the next level might not be so hard after all.
We rarely see hosting partnerships that are true partnerships. The late-night talk format could use some shaking up, and the best way to shake it up on a more regular basis might be to send in the Queens.
Ms. Williams and Ms. Robinson share an obvious comfort with each other and a confidence in their ability as performers. As a result, the show feels both spontaneous and polished like a ruby.
They're two hilarious, raunchy, unapologetic and geeky blerds (black nerds) who are guaranteed to have you in tears by the end of the first episode.
Their specials, filmed at the historic Kings Theater in Brooklyn and directed by Tig Notaro, bring the live show to the masses who haven't been lucky enough to attend tapings in person.
Although it's always fun to watch Williams and Robinson banter back and forth, it's their big interviews that make the strongest case for Queens to make the jump to the small screen.
Audience Reviews for 2 Dope Queens: Season 1
Jan 24, 2020Unique show that kept me tuning in for more.
Mar 05, 2018I love these two woman as comedians, but in this show I was bored and often confused. I felt like watching two tipsy people who know each other laugh at a bunch of inside jokes and ignore that there's an audience that might want a bit of effort to the writing. And Jessica, please stop saying "dragging me" 20x an episode. It's making my eye twitch. I love this gals and I love stand up comedy. But I feel this particular effort needed a bit more structure. Too much playful on stage anarchy left me a bit confused and bored.
Feb 19, 2018Hilarious, irreverent, good comedy and a refreshing take.
Feb 13, 2018not very funny - lots of attitude, but mostly the guests are the ones bringing whatever laughs there are
