Critics Consensus

Like its predecessor, the retooled 90210 is a sleek, campy guilty pleasure -- though it's unfortunately less pleasurable.

Critic Reviews for 90210 Season 1

All Critics (22) | Top Critics (14)

By trying to be all things to all viewers, 90210 feels rudderless. It lacks the dry wit of The O.C., the trashy snark of Gossip Girl and the pure melodrama of the original 90210.

Dec 26, 2019 | Full Review…

Really, the original Beverly Hills 90210 was pretty bad. And 90210, the CW remake that premiered last night, is pretty bad, too.

Sep 2, 2008 | Full Review…

The new 90210 was exactly what nobody expected it would be: remarkably faithful in tone and spirit to the original adventures of Brandon, Brenda, Scott Scanlon and company.

Sep 2, 2008 | Full Review…

I thought it'd at least be worthwhile to see Shannen Doherty reprise her role as Brenda Walsh, but not even one of my favorite characters ever could keep me watching for more than 3 episodes.

Dec 18, 2020 | Full Review…

I don't plan on becoming a devoted fan of the new 90210 but it displayed more tongue-in-cheek writing than I expected (although my standards were quite low).

Dec 30, 2019 | Rating: B | Full Review…

Surely the teenage girls at whom this show is aimed want a fantasy of their own, and not some act-of-desperation rehash of another era's hit? CW is about to find out.

Sep 2, 2008 | Full Review…

I thought it was ok, nothing to jump up and down about and definitely not as good as the original 90210.

Dec 30, 2019 | Full Review…

With the help of a strong musical soundtrack, it's off to a better-than-expected start and may strike a chord with teenagers.

Dec 30, 2019 | Rating: 3/4 | Full Review…

It is not a good sign that a high point late in the new version's debut was the arrival of [Shannen] Doherty, who by now looks as if she were ready to star in a Quentin Tarantino movie.

Dec 26, 2019 | Full Review…

At least the 1990s version pretended to take the subject of high-schoolers having sex seriously, showing characters experiencing pregnancy scares and strife with parents. This latest incarnation pretends at nothing.

Oct 10, 2018 | Full Review…

Again, I really can't stress enough how bad "90210" is, but it's so bad that I would actually kind of recommend watching it in a "look how bad this is!" sort of way.

Jun 14, 2018 | Full Review…

So far, so good. We'll forgive the campy moments - that's what makes a show like this fun.

Audience Reviews for 90210: Season 1

  • Feb 10, 2021
I liked this season of 90210, it wasn't my favourite but it highlighted many topics and delved into deeper substances of the show! Overall, I loved Silver's plot of being Bipolar I think it is important to highlight these issues in shows teens watch.
  • Jul 27, 2020
Eggold and Jessica Stroup steel the show and are unfortunately the only likable characters. Most of the cast is really entertaining.
  • Jun 19, 2015
I gave this show a shot only because of Matt Lanter (after watching his Star-Crossed). 90210 surprised me though as it was extremely entertaining and fun to watch.
  • May 23, 2015
The show starts off slow, and kind of stupid, but once you get past the first few episodes it's amazing! Definitely my favorite show of all time!
  • Dec 29, 2014
How a show like this gets made is beyond me. Must be a hell of a salesperson to pitch this garbage.
