Critics Consensus

According to Jim is marred by a lack of chemistry across its entire cast and a deluge of worn-out, low-aiming humor.

Critic Reviews for According to Jim Season 1

All Critics (14) | Top Critics (8)

The series' central problems are insurmountable.

Feb 11, 2020 | Full Review…

There's no chemistry to be found in this mismatched household, and there's no fun to be found in it, either.

Feb 11, 2020 | Rating: D- | Full Review…

It's disconcerting to think that since TV transmissions travel almost infinitely into the universe, channel-surfing extraterrestrials might get a glimpse of this show, thus lowering their opinion of Earthlings still further.

Feb 11, 2020 | Full Review…

For the most part the concept is pedestrian and secondary characters are reduced to stereotypes.

Feb 11, 2020 | Full Review…

There is nothing here you haven't seen so many times - you'll feel like you're watching reruns.

Feb 11, 2020 | Full Review…

ABC's "According to Jim" is such a conventional comedy that an actor more skilled at humor than Jim Belushi is needed to lift it above the ordinary.

Feb 11, 2020 | Full Review…

A standard family sitcom; there's nothing miserable here, but it's as bland as can be. Jim Belushi and Courtney Thorne-Smith are boring and uninspired, and the rest of the characters are barely more than cardboard cutouts.

Feb 25, 2020 | Full Review…

Belushi's gusto is all this show has going for it.

Feb 11, 2020 | Full Review…

The new ABC sitcom does not contain one believable moment, the two leads create negative chemistry and the writing is infuriatingly unimaginative and unfunny.

Feb 11, 2020 | Full Review…

The level of humor here is mind-boggling low.

Feb 11, 2020 | Full Review…

Your enjoyment of this series -- as well as marriage for that matter -- really depends on how high your expectations are. If you expect something special or constantly exciting, you're going to be sadly disappointed.

Jan 2, 2020 | Rating: 2.5/4 | Full Review…

Belushi and Campbell expertly use their physical comedic skills and timing to enhance their characters' boyish personalities and the show's slapstick, silly plot lines.
