What to Know

Critics Consensus

Lewd, rude, and viciously insightful of showbiz, Action skewers Hollywood with a bracing cynicism that rings true -- in large thanks to Jay Mohr's audacious and unapologetic performance.

Nasty, fun and pop-culturally incisive, it's Fox's best live-action comedy in way too many years. Go to Full Review

The Fox series fully lives up to the buzz, babe. It's hilarious, smart, racy, and has smash written all over it. Go to Full Review

It's out to render the envelope effectively obsolete with one full-bawdy slam to our antiquated sensibilities as it lets outsiders in on what a joke life can be in the fast and slow lanes of Hollywood. Go to Full Review
Cynthia Fuchs PopMatters 07/09/2019
Jay Mohr and Ileana Douglass are great, the scripts are mostly sharp, and the outright shots at industry hypocrisy and anxiety are funny. Go to Full Review

As a series, Action holds up, but Dragon is so unredeemable, it's difficult to watch multiple episodes in a single sitting. Go to Full Review

06/20/2022 This show still, in my estimation, ranks as the greatest Hollywood satire EVER. I place it above Sunset Blvd and The Player and even The Larry Sanders Show. It takes no prisoners and has the most biting dialogue ever spoken on a broadcast sitcom. Jay Mohr's performance is to comedy what James Gandolfini's in The Sopranos was to drama i.e. a new level of characterization. If this show had been on HBO instead of FOX, it would've run 10 years and been legendary. Instead we got the comparatively tepid and inferior Entourage. One of the greatest missed opportunities in broadcast TV history. See more Read all reviews
