Cleverly chaotic, "Unthinkable" closes out the second season with plenty of thrills and equal respect for Arrow's more minor characters.
After not resolving much over the past few episodes, the show sure took care of a lot of loose ends tonight!
"Unthinkable" is clever in that it gives every supporting character and every random guest star a little moment amid the chaos to show off why they're worthy of our time.
Despite the urgency of the finale, and its solid effort in maintaining a consistency with the thematic elements of the season, 'Unthinkable' also brought several threads to a close, while expanding others in interesting ways.
The Arrow finale, "Unthinkable, "was quite a ride. Specifically, it was Space Mountain, because most of us did not see what was coming for much of the episode.
There were plenty of great moments, but on the whole "Unthinkable" felt a bit anticlimactic in some areas and lacked a bit of the emotional oomph that recent installments like "Seeing Red" delivered in spades.
In the end, "Unthinkable" may not have blown our minds in quite the manner we expected, but still provided a concise, and thrilling resolution to an overall extraordinary season.
"Unthinkable" was more than just a season finale.
"Unthinkable" does what any great finale should-it expertly ties up several ongoing storylines while opening up the world for new, bigger adventures.
'Unthinkable' isn't perfect, but it's pretty darn close, bringing a sensational season of television to a suitably epic end.
Is "Unthinkable" the most action packed episode of Arrow? It might be.
All in all, this has been a reliably entertaining season with solid writing, incredible action, lots of fan service regarding relationships and comic book mythology, and surprises at every turn.
The payoff to a consistently impressive run of episodes, "Unthinkable" proves to be a phenomenally busy season finale, one that feels in danger of buckling beneath the weight of its own expectations.
