SEASON:

Season 1
Awkwafina is Nora From Queens

Critics Consensus

Nora From Queens showcases Awkwafina's charming brashness and surrounds her with an equally delightful cast -- especially scene stealer Lori Tan Chinn -- but it could stand to walk a less familiar comedic beat.

Particularly when Lum works with the other main members of the cast, the show is really funny and very appealing.

"Awkwakfina Is Nora From Queens" needs to find its own identity - and fast.

Jan 22, 2020 | Rating: C+ | Full Review…

But ultimately, the show is Awkwafina's baby all the way, as she brings her own fearless twists to the slacker genre. She has the chops to anchor a series, and the wisdom to let other performers steal scenes.

"Nora" is a unbridled joy.

Jan 21, 2020 | Rating: 3.5/4 | Full Review…

The real pleasure... is in how elegantly it avoids the traps so many other TV shows about immigrant families fall into, either dwelling on the ways in which the characters diverge from some imagined American norm or erasing all cultural specificity.

Jan 16, 2020 | Full Review…

Like Awkwafina herself, the show's charm and warm humor smoothly carry it, and its star channels both of those qualities into every moment, whether she's being rowdy, dirty, or introspective.

Jan 22, 2020 | Full Review…

She could easily just be a sad-sack slacker, but Awkwafina imbues her with such giddy energy and off-centre wit she's a golden comic creation.

Sep 17, 2020 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

What's remarkably genuine is that nothing feels didactic or forced. Its transgressions feel effortless because Awkwafina is being real: stoned, horny, and transnational.

Jan 16, 2020 | Full Review…

The show is fine, albeit very dumb, and it's an entirely different dramatic sport that only underscores her ability-a little uncomfortable but totally undeniable-to play a whole lot of different sports.

Jan 24, 2020 | Full Review…

Awkwafina's chemistry with her sympathetic widowed dad and no-nonsense grandma is also choice, with both relationships reading as lived-in and affectionate.

Jan 23, 2020 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

Nora from Queens is sweet and simple, even if at times it seems like it's too formulaic of a show to encompass Lum's range as a comedic weirdo.

Jan 23, 2020 | Full Review…

Awkwafina is pretty funny, but so is the rest of the cast, and she grounds her comedy by concentrating on her family.

Horrible show, this has to be the most annoying cast on tv in recent and current years. Don't waste your time.
  • Jan 16, 2021
It's funny, genuine and simple. Awkwafina is charming and her positiveness makes the show a lighthearted pleasure to watch.
  • Jan 03, 2021
I found this show very funny. I miss some jokes at time since sometimes she speaks too quickly.

The high approval ratings of this show is clearly a testament to North America's (especially the USA's) chronic dysfunctionality. The acting is grossly exaggerated, the lines are ridiculous. It's like they're trying to make this show a combination of Dr. Kim and Fresh Off the Boat but more edgy. I watched the first three episodes and I gave up. Moreover, it's really a Pro China series. Instead of going to somewhere politically neutral and democratic like Taiwan, they choose to bow down to [red] China.

It's decent it's worth watching on a Sunday afternoon for free

Hilarious, I absolutely love it, could binge watch it for hours!

I live in Queens. I hate this show. Pure liberal stereotypical garbage.

It isn't anything amazing, but 'Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens' is watchable. Awkwafina makes it as enjoyable as it is, without her I don't think I would've made it past episode one to be honest. I never overly laughed at any of the humour across the ten episodes, but she was at the heart of any parts I did find chucklesome - well, her and Lori Tan Chinn, who is pleasant to watch. Other cast members are basic, BD Wong is solid but the rest are hit-and-miss. There are some good episodes, some average and one or two bad ones; looking at you, "Vagarina". What helps this show massively is the fact that the episodes only lasts for 20 minutes, which is a blessing - even if they were just 10 minutes longer, I may have stopped watching. I didn't though, the short run time means the pacing is quick. I plan to watch season two, whenever that comes.

I thought this was very entertaining. Well some of the situations That Nora finds herself in were sophomoric, others were exceptionally unusual and pointedly funny. Kudos to the entire cast for a solid first season.
