Fresh face Ashley Rickards is instantly appealing in this goofy high school comedy.

Comedy, romance, depth of character development and potential scandal - no wonder Awkward is an early hit.

Awkward could generate a few protests - and that's okay. Maybe it will get more people to watch a good show.

Jul 19, 2011 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

Awkward., while fitting squarely within the clichés of high school drama, proves compelling and thoroughly entertaining due to its snarky, relatable lead character Jenna, ably portrayed by Ashley Rickards.

Perhaps the most aptly-titled show on television. Everything Jenna Hamilton goes through fits that word and I can't help laughing and feeling second hand embarrassment right along with her.

Jul 19, 2011 | Rating: 4.2/5 | Full Review…

Awkward's superb writing enables sharp character development, revealing layer after layer of each personality and giving viewers a glimpse of the complicated dynamics that exist within this peer group.

Jul 19, 2011 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

Awkward is adept in some quick cutaways, as in a classroom scene that echoes Ferris Bueller.

Jul 19, 2011 | Full Review…

High school horrors are pretty universal-even for people well past that age like me-and "Awkward's" writing is sharp enough to keep even those viewers who refuse to go to their reunions laughing.

Its distinction: strong echoes of an older kind of storytelling, the sort whose characters grow and acquire depth.

Jul 19, 2011 | Full Review…

Awkward hits all the right notes in terms of tone and respectably edgy content, but what it really nails is teenage longing, in all its embarrassment.

Audience Reviews for Awkward: Season 1

Really liked the concept but after a while with Jenna's emotional spiral it becomes boring. She looks like the problems young people are having today. Also, I understand it is a high school but it gives young girls the wrong perspective but I guess that is what sells. Being rude, pushing your parents away, friends away...ditching school; describes the sad state young people are at today.

The average teenage tv show but well executed, really funny characters.
