Awkward: Season 4 Photos

Tv Season Info

Season 4 of the comedy-drama about ordinary teen/blogger Jenna (Ashley Richards) and her friends picks up at the start of senior year. She sets out to right past wrongs and rekindle her relationship with Matty (Beau Mirchoff), but finds the going tougher than expected. The on-again, off-again nature of their relationship isn't helped by Jenna's attraction to college freshman Luke (Evan Williams), of course, or Matty's interest in tennis star Gabby (Erinn Westbrook). Post-high school life is closing in, as well, which means applying to college and, for Jenna, facing the possibility of parting ways with best friend Tamara (Jillian Rose Reed). Matty, meanwhile, also deals with adoption-related issues; and Jake (Brett Davern) and Tamara, who start the season as a couple, experience some turbulence in their relationship.

Seldom have the 99% of high school students been better represented on TV than through Jenna, which may explain why Awkward remains smart and funny as it enters its fourth season.

It's nice to see that Awkward. is finally taking note of this failing and forcing its heroine to take some responsibility for her future.

"No Woman is an Island" was a strong start to season four after the less-than-thrilling season three.

Sadly, Awkward Season 4 Episode 1 made the series falter miserably. With new show runners taking the helm, and maybe even a new staff of writers, what was once amazing about the comedy is now a distant memory.

There is overwhelming evidence in this first episode that it is a lesser show being run by showrunners with a weaker hold over these characters, this universe, and the rhythms of television comedy more broadly.

Audience Reviews for Awkward: Season 4

  • Nov 28, 2014
This review contains spoilers ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After watching this season, the show felt different because it had different showrunners this season. I am not sure if I see this as a good thing or a bad thing. This season is split into two arcs so I will talk about each arc in this review. The first arc of the season was really good. I loved how the shady character Eva was used and that her presence affected everyone in the show. Elizabeth Whitson did a good job portraying her. The character development was great all because of Eva basically. The second arc of the season was well, meh. It felt like the characters had been downgraded. My biggest problem is how Matty and Jenna still had “feelings” with each other. Their relationship is becoming toxic. It felt like it’s an obvious fan service for the Matt and Jenna shippers. The only characters that had very good and interesting character developments were Lacey (Jenna’s mom) and Lissa. It’s too bad that this second half of this season felt like the show was dumbed-down for the demographic. Even though the show still had the Jenna voiceovers in the background, the show felt like it forgotten about Jenna’s blogs that made Jenna talk over in the background in the first place. I do hope the writers remember that Jenna has a blog next season. I am not so sure about where this show is headed but I am glad to see that this show will be concluded on the next season so I will be sure to tune in. But I do hope the writers re-capture what made Awkward so great from its previous seasons on the final season. This final season is “meh” at its best despite how great its first half of the season was.

I think that Awkward is just going down hill. I used to love the show, mostly because it could be so relatable. Now i think that each show is just too rushed and not as amusing as it used to be.

Not funny as other seasons. To much into guy and girls relationships. Time to think stopping that show.
