Babes — Season 1

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Babes purports itself to be a step forward for representation in comedy, but despite a likable trio of stars, this sitcom's mean-spirited humor persistently laughs at them instead of with them.

The good news? Peretz, Boone and especially the talented Sperber are well cast and give off sparks of comic chemistry. But despite a few decent laughs, Babes is inconsistent. Go to Full Review

It's too mean-spirited to forgive. Or enjoy. Go to Full Review
Greg Joseph Arizona Republic 01/28/2021
Susan Peretz, Wendie Jo Sperber and Lesley Boone are disarming and show real comedic promise as the sisters. If the scripts ever rise above the inane and give the trio something to work with, this could be an interesting series. Go to Full Review

Babes is a major disappointment because it's clear these actresses could be appealing if given better -- or at least less idiotic -- material. Go to Full Review

There's something about Babes that's engaging in a room temperature IQ way. Go to Full Review
Ron Weiskind Pittsburgh Post-Gazette 01/28/2021
There is something very cynical in encouraging the audience to laugh at obesity in the coarsest way possible, only to turn around and insist that it is offensive to make fun of it. Go to Full Review

Demented N 07/19/2023 Great Show firstly peoples comments ' the show is usually jokes about the big girls' well duah or as Sophia from golden girls would say bohgsgoloop , its a sitcom about three bigger girls flat shearing in the 90's in NewYork although the only issues it had that I could see was it came at that time when the 90s arrived but the writers where still in the 80s which is not a bad thing really, the show wasn't cheaply made or poorly cast it was a great show all round with a wonderful group of ladies, sadly some no longer with us, An insider I know said the following and they will be nameless they said ''the three delta burkes no one would back them so the show was candled'', so basically big girls don't sell to investors, or as we now now perverted producers Cybill, The five Buchanan's Union Square all cancelled because of low ratings WINK WINK, on the plus one season in the UK where I come from is 6 episodes per season/year in American its 22 or 24 so that's like 4 years in one season so people in America saying it only ran for one season, im happy because 22 episodes is a lot. The show shows the struggles of being a big girl but also doesn't restrict them for example one episode the Wonderful wendi is roller skating so funny. the shows is very similar in style to the golden girls and I would personally put it in my top 20 shows of all times, its light its silly but most importantly its dam funny. Perverts like Billy Cosby get the world on a plate and than sum, Cybill gets cancelled because she would sleep with her boss and Mel Gibson constantly takes digs at her for mentioning moonlighting a lot. So? Remember Babes was on fox after married with children See more Read all reviews
