There is potential. It would be a shame if the judgment call goes against Babylon 5 and it ends up being a one-shot telefilm. Go to Full Review

Great special effects do not make for great science fiction. Writing is what makes TV series cook. Unfortunately, writing is the single biggest problem haunting Babylon 5. Go to Full Review
Ray Loynd Los Angeles Times 04/18/2018
Technically impressive, and perfectly scaled to TV, the production hardware is fashioned by compelling, low-key, desk-top-generated computer effects, including vrooming "Star Wars"-like spitfire marauders. Go to Full Review

... launches to a slow start, slowly establishing a universe full of races and political relationships, an Earth government embroiled in conflict and conspiracy, and a diplomatic space station of military personnel, mercenaries, and intergalactic traders. Go to Full Review

See more Turn K Jul 4 Babylon 5 is awesome. Enjoyed it so much I bought the entire DVD collection and have watched them many times. I did like the LOTR overtones throughout and they tie into a great story arc. I don't think the full-story arc approach is written enough in modern TV series. Having the entire storyline worked out at the beginning gives drive and focus to the telling, not the meandering episode-swapping slop we are so accustomed to being fed in recent years. Thankyou J.M.S for your efforts in getting this story to the masses. As a small mass, I thoroughly enjoyed BB5. See more Penny S May 28 Babylon 5 is seriously GREAT Sci-Fi. Graphics are excellent, given it's time period (see other sci-fi of the same era to compare). The writing is excellent and actors superb. Their growth is a pleasure to watch. Do yourself a favor and don't let the lackluster first season fool you or turn you away from finishing the series. You'll be extremely glad you held on. Although I gave the first season only four stars, the rest of the seasons and the series as a whole are 5+ stars. See more james o Mar 16 the series is a fan of Legendarium. See more Sebastian L Mar 14 The ambition is admirable and at least parts of Babylon 5 looks pretty good. The CGI has obviously aged terribly and the decision must have seemed strange even from the start. It is however the writing that is the real let-down. The dialogue and the banter reads like a low tier teen novel and very little is left to the viewer's imagination. Key moments are rushed and others are far too long. The production simply doesn't hold up. See more 09/15/2024 Easily the most overrated Sci-fi series to date. Ugly, bland sets that don't make you feel like you're in a giant floating cylinder in space, uninteresting characters, terrible dialogue, laughable CGI, filmed, acted and paced like General Hospital. The security chief is just a schlubby overweight guy from Brooklyn with no characterization to make you believe this guy is from the future, both Captains are bland, dull, uninspiring men, Ivanova's character is completely ham fisted and cliche and terribly acted. All the aliens are mostly just depicting Eastern Europeans/Middle Easters or a western stereotype of them. I got halfway through season 3. Overrated story told via TV production standards left over from the mid to late 80's. It doesn't matter if your story is written out before hand if the story is dull and poorly acted.
