Police commissioner Gereon Rath is transferred from Cologne to Berlin, the epicenter of political and social change in the Golden Twenties. Shellshocked from his service during World War I, he uncovers a dangerous web of intrigue while investigating one of Berlin's biggest pornography rings. There's an even bigger conspiracy unfolding, though, when Soviet rebels hijack a train as part of a mission hatched by Trotsky supporters in the city.

Like any good noir, Babylon Berlin makes it clear that this is a dirty, dirty world, and if anything good is to come of it, even the best of us may have to get a little dirty ourselves. Go to Full Review

...has both the long game and the short game expected of large scale TV series-there are complex story lines with arcs lasting a season or more, but also enough immediate interest to keep you watching while you figure out the complicated stuff. Go to Full Review

Martin R 02/22/2024 Two seasons in, "Babylon Berlin" feels like a sports car with a top quality engine that never really revs up. See more Roman L @Roman-L 05/17/2023 I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more 20s! See more mark s 03/24/2023 This series had great promise through season two. I really enjoyed it! But then season three happened. The wheels came off during the first few episodes of season three, and at that point, it goes down the rabbit-hole at the speed of light. Schade. Ich hatte auf Besseres gehofft. See more Jeff M @Jmo54 03/06/2023 One the finest TV series ever produced. A must for fans of historical fiction. See more 02/20/2022 A fantastic whirlwind of style, drama, politics, crimes, and passion. Loved it to bits! See more 07/09/2021 The second season of the Babylon Berlin series manages to dispel several of the objections made to the first. It looks less scattered, since the narrative lines are less and clearer, concentrating mainly on one of them and fewer characters. The season has at least three or four peaks of enormous tension, suspenseful scenes sustained over time and even achieved scenes of pure action. It is less pretentious and quarrelsome. There is more emphasis on the political, and from the above, certain characters emerge with more defined contours, such as Councilor Benda (a notable Mathias Brandt) and the fearsome Inspector Wolter (Peter Kurth, a sort of German Robert Mitchum). On the other hand, the chemistry between Lotte (Liv Lisa Fries) and the tortured and fierce Inspector Rath (Volker Bruch) continues to work. See more Read all reviews
