Written by the playwright Jez Butterworth, it is an ethereal and wonderfully odd drama. Go to Full Review

[Dave] Morrissey has the thrilled air of an actor who knows the show is so ludicrous, he literally cannot turn in a bad performance. Go to Full Review

It is all a bit of a riot if you don't take a second of it seriously (which also helps to make the graphic violence less vile). Go to Full Review

What a wonderfully bizarre reality Britannia has created. Go to Full Review

In its second season, Britannia fully embraces the unique tone it started to develop in the first season while telling a rich story with increasingly nuanced characters. Go to Full Review

I'm highly glad it's back, though. It makes little historical, theological, tribal or any other sense, but we get to see much fire and naked madness in Jez Butterworth's own vision. Go to Full Review

Stephen C @bob25009 Feb 4 10 successful MGM+ episodes. See more Jim P @RT08384096 01/29/2025 I loved the first series, a good balance between history and fantasy. But in season two the supernatural starts to take over. Still compelling entertainment. See more Master Y @RT82462600 06/24/2024 David Morrisey again steals the show, supporting cast is still good. Mackenzie crook does a great job as the warring brothers. See more Dan P @RT49653395 12/12/2023 Can't get enough of this series. 👍🏼👍🏼 See more Cecilia E @RT84884487 10/05/2022 Brilliant. You have to watch to understand. Can be disturbingly violent from time to time but in keeping with the era of Roman conquest of Britain I suspect. David Morrisey shines once more as the villain of the piece. A lot of weird and crazy darkly comic (almost) moments. Crazily psychedelic plot twists. Strange characters in even stranger costumes. Historical accuracy probably not it's strong point, but so much was not known about Britain in that era. They get a lot right though I suspect. Worth a look if you love historical fantasy. No GOT type romance going on though, it is a completely different kind of watch and should never have been compared by critics in the first place even prior to series 1 airing. Looking forward to season 3. See more 07/24/2022 Obviously Suspension of disbelief is critical for feeling fully immersed in any show or movie. But it is very hard to achieve that because of the glaring historical inaccuracies in this show. Since when Roman empire cared about diversity and inclusion, and women's representation. Not only the show have many Black people among Roman army ranks, but also they are portrait as patriotic Romans and with Roman names, which is even more unrealistic. and to add insult to injury, the music track is horrible.
