Critics Consensus

Despite some occasionally charming bits, Camp's subpar writing and tired genre cliches make it largely forgettable.

It's warm, it's light, it's airy and it has a whole lot of characters we just instinctively like.

The characters, scripts and performances are surprisingly smart -- almost, dare I say, deep. And you still get the comic humiliations, nasty rivalries and teeny bikinis.

It is possible for actors to overcome a lousy script, but that doesn't happen on Camp.

What emerges is an accessible, easily imbibed summertime series that basically beats actually going to camp for an entire gut-wrenching summer. So c'mon in, the water's not bad once you get used to it.

Never quite funny, dramatic or sexy enough, Camp is simply dull.

It's charming, if a little dull.

I didn't mind the three episodes that I watched, and even laughed in a spot or two, but nor did any of it stick with me for more than a few seconds after I finished.

Camp is the sort of show that gives scripted summer TV a bad name.

Jul 10, 2013 | Full Review…

We couldn't quite suffer through a third installment to see if these episodes were maybe just airing out of order.

Jul 11, 2013 | Full Review…

Camp hits all the same tedious summer-camp beats familiar to anyone who's seen Meatballs or its innumerable ripoffs.

Jul 9, 2013 | Rating: 2/5 | Full Review…

The younger campers and counselors all have dramas, too,.. None, though, is so compelling that I've stopped regretting the loss of ABC Family's much better Huge.

Jul 10, 2013 | Full Review…

Camp itself reveals a kind of throwback charm, recalling the kind of '70s and '80s summer-movie comedies (like camp classic Meatballs) that had pathos and real-life problems beneath their water-balloon fights.
