Critics Consensus

With the tone set by Martha Kelly's dour wit, Carol & the End of the World is a clever and surprisingly approachable spin on the apocalypse.

There’s a lovely Bojack Horseman-ish ennui to this. Go to Full Review

It’s the small, often unspoken moments of detail that make this wonderful cartoon feel far more three-dimensional than many live-action shows. Go to Full Review

With tremendous voice work by “Baskets” star Martha Kelly, “Carol and The End of the World” is a beguiling spin on existential dread. Go to Full Review

It is fascinating the most lowkey unobtrusive way possible, and that is so perfect for what it's doing. Go to Full Review

Netflix continues to cement itself as the best streaming service for adult animation, proving that the medium can tell profound stories at the same level as a live-action series. Go to Full Review

[It's] a melancholic rumination on how people respond to existential catastrophe and the voyage of self-discovery that happens when all bets are off and the world faces its final curtain. It’s also highly amusing, in its own dry, quiet way. Go to Full Review

Susan S @Sookey 5d It is pre-apocalypse, so of course it is sad. It is also humourous and heartwarming. It has depth with some meaningful messages. This is not a formula show and for that I’m grateful. I found it artistically, stunning, and creative. The graphics had a way of really pulling you in to the story. I really enjoyed it but appreciate it won’t be everyone’s thing. It is one of those show shows that you’re either gonna love or hate. I get it. But I don't. Every negative review on here sounds like a person who actually watched this show. There is so much content in these positive reviews that sounds AI generated, it is pretty sad that I can't tell who is being honest on a review site anymore. I honestly wouldn't have reviewed this on this site if I didn't notice how strange all of the reviews are. I have nothing more to add that hasn't already been said by another reviewer with a low score. So I'll just leave it at that. See more Joseph C Apr 22 "Carol & the End of the World" is deeply depressing yet poignantly reflective See more Mia M Apr 15 Carol & The End Of The World is an absolute, no-brakes rollercoaster of emotion from start to finish. I honestly had been putting this one off, and when I finally pulled the trigger on watching it, I wish I had earlier. It feels like an all too relevant piece, taking place in a world that is actively falling apart as it is 7 months from destruction by a rogue planet, Keppler-9c, headed for a direct collision with Earth. While the world is off crossing off their bucket lists, living lives unconstrained by rules, and chasing their wildest fantasies, Carol Kohl just wants to find some peace and quiet. But along the way, she finds so much more, including her two friends Donna and Luis, an overly clingy date Eric, and even her own sister Elena. Carol & The End Of The World isn’t a story about death. It’s a story about life, and all the complexities and intricacies that come with it. About doing what you want, whether it’s ordinary or extraordinary. About spending time with the people who make you happy, doing things that make you happy, and creating meaning within yourself, rather than looking to find it everywhere else. I couldn’t recommend this show more. If anything, grab a pillow, a blanket, and a box of tissues, and don’t be afraid to cry when it’s over. After all, all things must eventually come to an end.
