Catastrophe: Season 1 (2015)

Season 1

Critics Consensus

Catastrophe proves that there's still a place for simple romantic comedy on television, as long as the actors have chemistry and the jokes are laugh-out-loud funny.

[Catastrophe] has built a wickedly funny comedy around two people trying really hard, who seem to be falling in love with each other despite all logic.

Catastrophe is hilarious, dirty, quick, and very satisfying-not unlike the sex lives of its protagonists.

It's a really likable romantic comedy that takes a lot of familiar material and smartens it up, gives it intimacy; it dodges all of the TV-ized clichés that can turn scripted love into a Ping -Pong game of witticisms and snark.

Jul 14, 2015 | Full Review…

It is side-splittingly honest: About love, anger, attraction, aging, pregnancy, and "sex musk." It is also, not coincidentally, the finest and funniest new comedy of the year.

What's best about Catastrophe is how engaging the characters of Rob and Sharon are, and how quickly we come to root for them

Catastrophe is nothing of the sort. This Brit import is one of the freshest and funniest new shows you'll see all summer.

Catastrophe, thank God, hasn't morphed into a cuddly family sitcom where the kids get their share of unlikely witty lines.

The leads are hugely likeable and well-defined, with a chemistry that's a joy to watch.

The naturalness that it gives off and the chemistry between the two actors hooks that gives pleasure and causes the chapters to fly by. [Full Review in Spanish]

The comedy never gets too heavy even when age, unemployment, exes or fatal life-threatening diseases become a part of the conversation... trust me, the show is never a bummer.

Amazon Studios hasn't quite experienced the steamrolling success with originals that Netflix has-so far, Transparent has been its brand-building title. But Catastrophe is elbowing its way in.

I loved it for so many reasons I watched all 4 seasons with my fiancée it's so relatable and heartwarming I think everyone should give it a try
  • May 31, 2020
Probably one of the more realistic love stories out there! The characters are hilarious and have great chemistry. Just a fun, good show.
  • Apr 09, 2020
The first couple of seasons were very good. But drops off around season 3.
  • Sep 10, 2019
Normally I draw a line at excessively raunchy humor, but watching this in a room with my husband and no kids around, I can't help but laugh throughout every episode. It's taking an old subject but presenting it in a new, fresh, and hysterical way. The two main characters are crass but witty and the humor is nonstop. In spite of myself, I love this show!

    Perfectly written! So darn funny!!
  • Mar 16, 2019
Great little show... Its realistic and 4 short seasons was just enough.
  • Sep 11, 2018
Binge watching this it! Raunchy but loving, crazy yet warm. The characters are super cool and nerdy at the same time. I highly recommend.
  • Dec 16, 2017
Totally addicted to this farce between the Yin and the Yang
  • Jun 14, 2017
I love this show! The dialogue between them is real, sparkling and oftentimes cringeworthy, but also funny.
  • Aug 03, 2016
okay I've watched the season it kinda grows on you like algae its not romantic since the main characters ended up from the first episode its comedic since all its jokes are pathetic dirty jokes (its like family guy but even worse) I did laugh 2-3 times only to escape the awkwardness of the situations our mcs were put through it wasn't actually funny just really awkward so basically all I can see that it's a cringe-fest with a semi-interesting plot and its like the other characters never interact now I'm sure RT was high when it choose this to be 100% certified fresh show
