Season 1
Chicago Med

Critics Consensus

While adding nothing new to the established medical procedural formula, Dick Wolf's Chicago Med hits its familiar beats forcefully enough to satisfy a few genre enthusiasts.

    Oof, that was Rotten.

    Meh, it passed the time.

Tv Season Info

Set in the busiest emergency room in Chicago, "Chicago Med" is the third installment of Dick Wolf's Chicago-set franchise. The first season of this medical drama centers on the lives of the hospital's doctors and staff as they take on unique cases, often going beyond the call of duty to care for their patients. The introduction of a new trauma fellow, Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell), creates tension in the ranks; and Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto), who is seven months pregnant, must learn to navigate life and work after the sudden loss of her husband during his tour of duty in Afghanistan. Also stars Oliver Platt, Nick Gehlfuss and S. Epatha Merkerson.

Like Chicago Fire,Chicago Med is a really quick hour of television. Nothing lags, nothing bores, even the familiar.

Chicago Med is an edition to the Chicago franchise (see: P.D, Fire), but I can't see much value here outside of hardcore fans of that particular franchise.

No ER, this.

Sep 21, 2015 | Rating: D | Full Review…

The original Chicago Med pilot, which was built into an episode of Chicago Fire and is widely available online, was tedious.

Sep 9, 2015 | Rating: 2/4 | Full Review…

Wolf knows how to entertain us with his brand of gritty, pretty crime procedurals and with stronger character development, Chicago Med could improve its prognosis.

Viewers looking for the best new medical drama of this still young season can find it in Chicago Med. Then again, there are only two of them so far.

For all its déjà vu Chicago Med... entertains anyway.

Apr 30, 2019 | Full Review…

It's your basic hospital ER drama with nothing really new to offer the genre. But like most, if not all of Wolf's shows (he's the creator of Law & Order), it's well done and has a strong cast.

Good but not best new medical show of the fall.

Sep 21, 2015 | Rating: 2/4 | Full Review…

It is harmlessly watchable, to the extent that I will most likely watch this entire season in five-episode binge bursts.

Jun 8, 2016 | Full Review…

Medical drama revives classic themes, bloody scenes.

Nov 24, 2015 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

Overall, Chicago Med looks like it will be able to strike that sweet spot, balancing interesting medical cases with relatable human drama. Here's hoping that it not only finds it's way to the top of the Dick Wolf oeuvre.

CopyCat! But Great Cast, amazing Actors/Actresses make up for it
  • Jun 20, 2016
Excellent main cast, BUT why do all the supporting characters act against human nature. The only medical drama that presents characters in this way. Example ep8 girl is brought in desperately ill, needs a scan, father gets tired of waiting for scan so storms into scan room and orders it to be stopped.. Completely against human nature.. Will stick with the show, the main cast are good enough to carry a few poor stories.. But not a few poor seasons

The cast of Chicago Med will always make you want to see more. Every episode has a story that invite you to dive into the situation.
  • Jan 26, 2016
    I love all three shows.
  • Nov 18, 2015
Cast is good, but OMG, how many cliches ... pregnant doctor whose husband killed in action, organ transplant drama, etc ... think they have run out of things to write about in the first episode.
