Crime Scene: The Times Square Killer brings humanity to sex work’s murder victims. Go to Full Review
John Anderson Wall Street Journal 01/06/2022
The Times Square Killer is a sensational, even morbidly fascinating tale, to be sure, but the squalid avenues it travels lead to dark places, blind alleys of the soul and some blind spots about how the world not only runs itself but sees itself. Go to Full Review

It's irresistible for true crime aficionados, but what makes "Times Square Killer" better than the standard is how it reflects the rampant seediness that blanketed the area. Go to Full Review

As much a deep dive into how Times Square got its seedy reputation in the '70s and '80s than it is about Cottingham's killing spree. And that's a refreshing way to approach the usual true crime format. Go to Full Review

jon s 05/14/2022 The tragic true story of a serial killer becomes the cloying fake story of current-year pandering in the hands of an inept documentarian and Melinda Chateauvert, possibly the most mendacious idiot to misappropriate the title "doctor" since Josef Mengele. See more cem y 02/08/2022 I really liked this documentary. The final moments where you see the beast who has done all these after 30-40 years make you feel very different. Also, I really liked its coverage of New York's sociological and historical background back then. See more 01/30/2022 It's well made. But it's so slow. And 80% of the time it's not about the murders. It's mostly about the Times Square's history of prostitution. See more dan r 01/09/2022 After the first 'Crime Scene' series on Netflix I was really looking forward to 'Crime Scene: The Times Square Killer'. SYNOPSIS: 'In 1970s NYC, the "Torso Killer" preys on women to fulfill his grotesque fantasies while eluding police. A docuseries dive into crime's darkest places.' More than anything this is great nostalgia and/or a window into the gritty, grimy, colorful Time Square area of New York City of the late '70s and early '80s. This isn't a case I'd ever heard of but that takes nothing away from how intrigued I was for this, especially after episode 1. This deep dive isn't as good as the previous series, but that's more to do with how good that series was/is. The producers do have a refreshing way to approach the usual true crime format and that has me hooked. More please! 7/10 See more Marc Z @TKDLife 01/06/2022 This installment of Crime Scene is much better than the first. Unlike a hotel this three part installment uses the sex fueled Times Square District as the background to tell a documentary crime story of serial killer of sex workers in the 1970s-1980s. The documentary uses historical footage and modern interviews of police, experts, victims, and witnesses. This one does a better job telling this story in a tighter and more interesting fashion than the prior one. NYC's Time Square is a story within a story with a vast and interesting history that made this engaging. You don't need to watch The Cecil Hotel installment to watch this one. See more Jan V 01/04/2022 Why do these Netflix "true crime" episodes have to be so slow and bloated? These are crimes that can be fully explained in a one hour episode. I'll stick to Oxygen network, thanks. See more Read all reviews
