Daniel Defoe's classic novel gets a makeover (with a bit of a comedic twist) in this saga of a young man, Robinson Crusoe, shipwrecked on a desert island, where his unlikely friendship with a native named Friday helps him hold on to his sanity as he desires to return home to his wife and children. While the current lives of the two men are filled with hungry cannibals, wild animals and terrifying lightning storms, flashbacks reveal Crusoe's life with his wife, Susannah, before he became a castaway.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Crusoe has plenty of island hijinks and derring do to please the young at heart, but viewers who want fidelity to the source material or plausibility in its survivalist concept will feel marooned in a sea of mediocrity.

As the original story goes, Crusoe spent something like 28 years shipwrecked and alone. Crusoe, I suspect, will be lucky to survive a single season. Go to Full Review

For the first hour, the sheer silly energy of the contraptions and the appeal of the two stars carry Crusoe along. But you may find yourself tiring of plot holes you can steer a galleon through and the second-rate nature of much of the cast. Go to Full Review

There's some good old-fashioned swordplay, a few impressive leaps from great heights, and other swashbuckling staples that are suddenly fashionable again thanks to the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies. Go to Full Review

Though based on the Daniel Defoe classic adventure novel, the producers of this version are Defoe of everything worthwhile. This Crusoe begs, borrows and steals from everywhere. Go to Full Review

Bambilynn S Jun 21 I watched this series, It had good acting by both actors. However it got old real quick every episode that they get beatsup, and DISCRACED. You would think after getting attacked so often they would learn how to FIGHT. Thats one of the reason the series was cancelled im sure. They never won one fight and constantly get attacked. I expected more from this series. See more James L 06/12/2024 Crusoe is an exciting and family friendly view of the classic novel by Daniel Defoe. It uses the source material, but also strays in many ways. It is entertaining and interesting, with a lot of flashbacks and looks at those in England that Crusoe left behind. The actors work well together and the teamwork between Crusoe and Friday shines through the story. See more Read all reviews
