Set in 1971 on a remote outpost of the Navajo Nation near Monument Valley, Dark Winds follows Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn of the Tribal Police as he is besieged by a series of seemingly unrelated crimes. The closer he digs to the truth, the more he exposes the wounds of his past. He is joined on this journey by his new deputy, Jim Chee. Chee, too, has old scores to settle from his youth on the reservation. Together, the two men battle the forces of evil, each other and their own personal demons on the path to salvation.

With its deep period inhalation of Navajo life, and flashes of supernatural suggestion that deliver horror vibes, Dark Winds is atmospheric, but there’s also an embrace of thrills.

At this point, Dark Winds is already doing variations on its own themes. But they're good themes, and interesting variations. Change can be overrated sometimes, when you're already good at what you do.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve been watching from the beginning or just tuning in for this season, Dark Winds is the best hidden gem TV show of 2026 so far, and it’s hard to imagine another show unseating its traditional structure and innovative story.

While the fourth season of Dark Winds is taking a chance by going off the rez, seeing Leaphorn, Chee and Manuelito facing big changes brings interesting context to what might be normally be considered a standard police thriller case.

If old Sundance [Robert Redford] was still kicking, he’d surely approve of this new season because it’s a fitting homage to his ‘70s heyday and builds upon the gritty, rollickingly adventurous tone of that bygone era.

I enjoyed the first three seasons of Dark Winds, But I must admit with each preceding season the show got weaker. So, we come to season 4 which I think was pretty bad. The acting felt stiff and the dialogue painfully artificial. Hopefully, there will not be a 5th season.

Is it me or why do all the bad guys and girls end up to be white, even Nazis? Stereotypes? I love the show but this german assassin chick doesn't make sense.

Very fictional rendering of living conditions on a Navajo reservation where today (as has been the case for many many years) residents enjoys chronic clean water shortages, dilapidated school buildings many of them living in shacks and makeshift housing(pieces of aluminum held down by bricks serving as roofs. You can imagine what it was like back in the 1970's

I love the pictures from New Mexico, I love the total 70 ties vibe, I love the the characters and their development.I love the actors I just want to go back to the states when I see I see this and that is not a feeling I have much these days

I love the native american vibe of this series. But there are also times that this series comes across as a student assignment. But I probably will watch season 5.
