The film suffers from its commitment to serve two masters, trying to get at the elusive truth of what transpired between this famous couple while providing a jaundiced view of the way social media has poisoned a collective grasp of truth. Go to Full Review

If ever a true-crime documentary needed the usual collection of talking-head interviews with esteemed journalists, law enforcement veterans and legal experts to put things in perspective, this is it — but that never happens. Go to Full Review

Could be worse, but could hardly be more pointless. Go to Full Review

Glaringly lacking an expert viewpoint, Depp v. Heard is a weak attempt at self-reflection. Go to Full Review

The problematic docuseries attempts a balanced conversation about social media interest in the trial, relying on random opinions while excluding experts and journalists to assist in telling the story. Go to Full Review

By the third episode the constant use of extras watching trial footage on their screens to sinister ambient music has reached the point of self-parody. Go to Full Review

Janice F Apr 12 Why did they interject all that useless crap into it? It wasn't funny. It shouldnt have been turned into a joke. Such poor taste and a poor documentary. Whoever made this should never EVER do a documentary again. I wanted to see the trial. Not a bunch of memes, cut ins and strangers reacting. Awful. Absolutely awful. See more Sam O 07/14/2024 I watched the trial start to finish. I didn't engage in social media during it as I had no interest. I began the trial very open minded to Heard. The documentary is heavily favoured towards Heard. It's like the documentary maker didn't actually watch the trial. If you want to watch something watch the trial not this rubbish. See more Dana B 07/06/2024 This could’ve been such a good documentary. They ruined it by featuring so many tik tok commentators. I love tik tok… the clips from commentators were so shallow and annoying. And they left out so much of the trial. I like the concept of matching their testimonies to the events. Just wish they had done that more. Given more content from the trial and left out of the tik tok stuff. Super disappointed See more Landinski 07/05/2024 My dog stepped on a bee >.< See more L G 02/03/2024 An over the top, sensationalized series that seems to have been put together by an inexperienced Youtuber. See more J M @jeffmarshallmovieblogger 01/17/2024 I don't think I've ever felt so polarized from the general public and critical consensus than with this 3-part docuseries. As of this writing, Rotten Tomatoes currently shows a 27% critic approval and a 10% audience approval. I'm giving it my highest rating. As far as I'm concerned, everyone has missed the mark here. I did not follow the trial, so I'm not one to judge how well this accurately documents the proceedings. But I don't think the trial itself is the takeaway here. What blew my mind, and what truly held my feet to the fire, was the amount of time dedicated to the reaction of the world at large - particularly the world of the internet. Rather than show us the normal talking heads of legal pundits, we are introduced to social media influencers who were obviously slanted towards a bona fide Hollywood superstar. We also bear witness to such appalling behavior from the throngs of onlookers that shouldn't be surprising by now but still feels unprecedented. And this is the area in which I began to feel compelled to look inside myself. While I condemned the actions and attitudes of those who seemed to forget that the participants are actually living, breathing human beings, I had to admit that I have been guilty of behaving in a similar manner, particularly when it comes to a certain ex-president. I allow my hatred and contempt to cloud my better judgment and my empathy as a human being. The critical and audience reviews for this have seemed to complain that the filmmaking is slanted toward Heard - I did not feel that way in the slightest. And I think that's missing the larger point of this whole docuseries. It's much more than just a look at a trial - it's a look at ourselves. And in that regard, it hit home in a powerful way! - Jeff Marshall, Movie Blogger (Facebook) See more Read all reviews
