When popular vlogger Ruby Franke is arrested for child abuse in August 2023, it quickly becomes one of the biggest trending stories in America. For years, the Frankes’ YouTube channel had documented a wholesome, happy family life, with 2.5 million subscribers tuning in at its peak. But happy families are rarely what they seem. As the cracks began to show, the family turned to counselor Jodi Hildebrandt for guidance – and rapidly found themselves trapped in a nightmare. Only the Frankes know what went on inside their home. This series marks the first time Shari and Chad, the Frankes’ two eldest adult children, and Kevin, Ruby’s husband, will share their story in depth on camera. With exclusive access to the Frankes, their friends and neighbors, and over a thousand hours of their YouTube channel’s unseen footage, “Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke” cuts through the social media reaction to explore the untold story behind the Ruby Franke case: part family tragedy, part coming-of-age narrative, part tale of our times about the perils of life lived online.

“Devil” is not a sloppy rehash. Instead, it is pointed and insightful. Go to Full Review

It's an above-average documentary about this high-profile criminal scandal because this docuseries has interviews with Ruby Franke's ex-husband Kevin and their eldest children Shari and Chad. However, the series needed more details about Jodi Hildebrandt. Go to Full Review

Ddirector Olly Lambert does a solid job. The series is gripping, especially for those who weren’t steeped in the details. And there are a lot of details. Go to Full Review

Troy S @TroyStyles Dec 7 A true immersive ride into the dark, tormented mind of Ruby Franke and those who were subjected to her vile, disruptive rage. What normalcy would equate to perfection would never live up to her presumptive desire for the unachievable preconceived outward perception that molded her. An ethical, tasteful, and seemingly accurate depiction of what drove her, the unimaginable torture she inflicted, and the disturbing ideology that shaped her descent, delivers an unflinching look at the fractures beneath a polished façade. It exposes the manipulation, the spiritual distortion, and the psychological warfare that consumed her being. More than recounting a crime—it submerges the viewer in the slow erosion of reality that allowed such horror to flourish. With meticulous storytelling and unwavering sensitivity, it paints a portrait that is as haunting as it is necessary, forcing us to confront the truth: monsters are not always born in darkness—sometimes, they paint their own self portrait. See more matthew w @Matthew1972 Apr 25 The hidden reality of a family vlogger, on the surface Ruby was the nation's darling with the perfect family, but in reality she was a fame hungry psycho who first brainwashed her family into being in front of the camera for her own stardom & then for insane religious beliefs. Why did her weak husband Kevin blinded by love not see this? Especially when the equally insane Jodi came into their lives & eventually forcing him & the two eldest children out, brainwashing him into thinking if he leaves he will help the family rid their lives of demons. Religious fanaticism at it's finest! Even before things got really weird for the Frankes, they were part of a cult. Mormonism is scary all by itself, without the likes of Ruby & Jodi. And Kevin should have trusted his instincts the first time he walked into the ConneXions meeting. For me no questions were left unanswered so I have nothing but praise for this doc series. Unfortunately I was left infuriated by Kevin Franke's blindness and stupidity. I just want to smack em. It's so hard to understand such blind faith in what is really utter superstitious nonsense. See more Jared B Mar 31 As I knew little of the story, the documentary is riveting and well done. The details are very sad. I don't understand how mental health is not talked about more. Ruby certainly seemed to be going down a path of psychosis. It is sad that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints seems to get blamed for some of Ruby's and Jodi's actions. In my experience when patients get psychotic, religious delusions are quite usual. See more Read all reviews
