In a day and age where expansive special features... on physical home media are almost non-existent, the existence of this is a huge breath of fresh air. It shows Disney are still committed to chronicling the behind the scenes of their productions.

I won't give much else away so you can experience the magic yourself, but the show brings together elements of the score, the puppetry and mechanics, down to the costume and performances.

Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian is a show that can balance greater discussions of how vital a single lightsaber battle might be to an entire trilogy to the prequel trilogy alongside pure excitement.

Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian pays homage to the work and creativity that made the series into what it is today. But younger fans may find it a little boring, and others may want to hold on to the magic of the fictitious world.

Hardcore Star Wars fans will find the content lacking in the lore department while hardcore cinephiles will find the directors' filmmaking tips equally so. But as a breezy casual watch... it is just fine.

The candid nature of the discussion between a group of filmmakers who have clearly become friends after being at Star Wars camp makes for amusing and informative entertainment.

Practical effect fans are also well treated - there's an entire section on make-up and puppets. Anyone who's fascinated with the art of making movies, or just really into Star Wars, will love this series.

Disney Gallery: Star Wars: The Mandalorian is a pretty straightforward BTS docuseries, but it should scratch the itch of anyone who's jonesing for new Star Wars content.

[A]n informative docu-series that will interest both die-hard Star Wars fans as well as those who are just learning to have an appreciation for the universe George Lucas created.

Disney Gallery: Star Wars: The Mandalorian is sort of a group of DVD featurettes transformed into series form as it takes an in-depth look at the behind-the-scenes process behind and creation of the show The Mandalorian. This was interesting. Givien that this was a highly expensive and ambitious show, going for a movie-like quality, you learn about the tremendous amount of effort given to make this all come together, including one really innovative technique. Be prepared that there isn't as much behind-the-scenes footage in this as you'd think. A lot of this is the showrunners, producers, directors, writers, actors, etc. sitting at a table and talking about the show. I felt this would slow things down, but the roundtable discussion format runs pretty smoothly. Everyone involved shows passion for what they did. And don't get me wrong, there is some interesting behind-the-scenes footage. It's more prevalent in the later episodes when the focus is more on the look and sound of Star Wars. Showrunners Jon Favreau (director of such films as Elf, Jungle Book, and Iron Man) and Dave Filoni (known for his work on the Star Wars animated shows) sort of run the narration and discussion and provide an infectious love for the world of Star Wars. Expect to be surprised by a couple of big name directors on this. Overall, if you're not a big on behind-the-scenes stuff, this isn't going to change your mind. Still, I think fans of The Mandalorian or Star Wars in general may appreciate this.

If you liked the Mandalorian, then you'll want to see how greatness is made.

While the first few episodes seem not great on you first watch the show really combines humor and action really well. They do a suprisingly good job at showing emotional scenes when one of the people is always wearing a helmet. After getting an appreciation for the show I watched it again and saw the first few episodes in a better light. They don't take shortcuts on world building even though the show is apart of a well known property and the show really excels because of it. Overall I really love how they can take all the elements of Star Wars and fill it into one really good show.

An intriguing look at how "Star Wars: The Mandalorian -- Season 1" was made. Everything from the directors of the season's episode is near-gold.
  • Jun 05, 2020
All the episodes have not been released, but this behind the scenes blew my mind over how advanced movie making techniques, combined with traditional film making and practical effects and animation pre-production processes were used to create The Mandalorian streaming series. The future of Star Wars content is in extremely capable hands with Filoni and Favreau creating it.
