Based on the podcast of the same name, "Dr. Death" follows the real-life stories of medical "professionals" who took advantage of their situations and allowed their egos to harm - or even kill - patients. While each season covers the personal lives and attrocities commited by the doctors, they also tell the stories of the courageous people who brought them to justice. More importantly, they also expose the educational and medical institutional failures that allowed these people to practice medicine in the first place.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Though it keeps viewers in the waiting room a little too long, Dr. Death is a horrifying tale of medical malpractice centered around Joshua Jackson's sufficiently unsettling performance.

Despite the off-puttingly flippant title, the eight-part series is an impactful, agitating true-crime chiller that carefully balances the gravity of the scandal with elements of grotesque horror. Go to Full Review

Jackson is great as a wannabe genius descending into a self-created hell. Go to Full Review

It’s an absolutely terrific performance by Jackson in a drama brimming with stomach-knotting tension. Every scene he’s in is freighted with a sense of dread at what’s going to happen next. Superb. Go to Full Review

Sharang L @Scribe187 Nov 8 This is powerful, heartbreaking stuff. Joshua Jackson is scarily good. Why didn't I hear of this show earlier? See more Darla D @Darlad Jul 26 Season 1 review Interesting true story (dramatized) important situation for everyone in the world to know about and understand how the worldwide medical industry by its nature accidentally unintentionally allowed such deviant misguided physicians to do wrong by people resulting in pain and death. important I do think the story could’ve been told a lot quicker. It would’ve been even more effective if they could’ve boiled it down to an hour and a half movie length. See more Dave C Jun 21 Unreal! JJ is a phenomenal casting choice, delivering at an award-winning level from start to finish. The accounts of injured, assaulted, and murdered people are crushing and gobsmacking in equal measure, with the Doctor's bravado and delusion, pitted against the fear and inaction of institution after institution... Wow! Seeing the years show in the timeline made it all the more shocking See more Christine B 07/18/2024 The podcast was outstanding - definitely watch that first if you haven’t yet. Overall I think they did a pretty good job of telling the story, but it felt like they did Jerry a little dirty. I loved the portrayal of the doctors trying to stop this monster - both Baldwin and Slater did phenomenal jobs. See more robert o 04/22/2024 First, this is a show that everyone should see. You should also know that the Texas medical board is just as bad now as it was when this occurred. I was at an organization that reported well documented, repeated cases of medical fraud that the board refused to do anything about. Texas and Florida stood out as States where doctors engaged in fraud flocked to. The show is very well acted and written. It felt like this story could have been condensed to four episodes with a second story told with the next four episodes. Doctors are like any other profession. Some are fantastic, some are horrible and most fall somewhere in-between. The dangerous part is unlike the rest of us, they are rarely supervised in the US.
