Critics Consensus

Faking It brings real, savvy humor to the high school genre, but lacks the critical teeth that some may be looking for in an LGBT concerned series.

Critic Reviews for Faking It Season 1

All Critics (12) | Top Critics (5)

The fantasy element of the show is funny, but the irony of the situation needs to remain clear.

Oct 3, 2018 | Full Review…

The engine driving this show is female friendship, the kind strong enough to get you through even high school. For Amy and Karma, we want that.

Apr 22, 2014 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

It's disheartening that a show like Faking It could have so much potential with smart writing, a great set of actors and a provocative premise, and then have its relevance and credibility destroyed.

Oct 3, 2018 | Full Review…

Faking It isn't anything more than a smarter-than-average high school comedy, but there's a freshness to it, perhaps because so many of the key people involved are relative newcomers.

Apr 22, 2014 | Full Review…

A bland high school comedy, it's as empty a gesture as two drunk, straight girls grasping for attention by making out in front of a group of hollering guys.

Bounces between snark and sweet and with a side of pathos.

Oct 3, 2018 | Full Review…

It's kinda cute, y'all! It's actually a big deal, too, because having a show about high schoolers consistently centered around a lesbian character is pretty rare.

Oct 2, 2018 | Full Review…

Bubbly and fun, Faking It presents a fresh perspective of high school culture.

Anyone following MTV's Awkward will be sure to love the new series, but even non-fans won't fake their enjoyment of the new show.

Apr 24, 2014 | Full Review…

The coming-of-age-and-coming-out story is certainly a time-honored one in the LGBT cinematic canon, and having both girls playing gay-for-social-cachet is an interesting farcial spin.

Apr 24, 2014 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

It could be an interesting twist for Amy to stop pretending to be gay and suddenly be pretending to be straight.

Apr 24, 2014 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

About as relevant to the gay lifestyle as Modern Family, Faking It shoots for the stars, but only hits a bunch of brightly colored rainbows on "Vote for Me" posters.

I know it's a cliche to fall in love with your best friend but I enjoyed this show very much. The drama has always been there I mean these are teenagers so what else do you expect? But they didn't make it overly dramatic that you can't help but roll your eyes. Probably what's different about this is that the reason why they (Karma & Amy) pretended to be a couple so Karma could get the attention of the guy she's eyeing for. I mean how twisted is that? And Amy didn't know she's in love with Karma (or just plain lesbian in general) until they "fake kissed" Another plus in this show how diverse the characters are. Like Liam (a typical jock) is best friends with an "alpha gay" (if there's a term). Then Amy's step sister is a hermaphrodite. They even have transman (transgender) who fell in love with a gay guy. The list just goes on. In summary, this show didn't just deal with high school drama but it also dealt with friendship, love, loyalty, and diversity without exaggeration.

What I got to say about "Faking It" Season 1 seem to be a good show. The performances by the while cast is good. The directing and screenplay is good. The cinematography is good. Finally, the score is good as well. "I have to report that "Faking It" is an coming-of-age and coming-out story for a TV show to be good to watch."

I watch and love Faking It. It's the right of stuff to be watching during this time period of time with LGBT I like this show for this particular: it covers thins that people fear about opening up about your feeling and coming out about your sexuality. And than you realize Gays and Lesbians are just as normal as straight people are. I'm so excited that its coming back for another Season'
