At a luxurious but remote tropical island resort, the enigmatic Mr. Roarke somehow makes the secret dreams of his well-heeled guests come true, although twists of fate occasionally turn those dreams into nightmares. He is assisted by Tattoo, a little person who could be trusted to sing out, "Da plane! Da plane!" as each group of guests arrived. In the final season of the series, Roarke is joined by Lawrence, a dapper Englishman. As a sort of anthology series, the show featured new guest stars each week, and many big names of the era made a trip onto "Fantasy Island."

What to Know

Critics Consensus

While Fantasy Island gives the dreamy Ricardo Montalbán his overdue spotlight, the twisty morality tales that make up the bulk of this series could have used a lot more imagination.

The performers are generally good, but the pace is extremely slow and the plotting and writing are painfully obvious. Go to Full Review
Don Shirley Washington Post 09/21/2021
A thin fantasy this is. We learn quickly that everything will always turn out right, and the scripts insert willy-nilly doses of would-be warm-hearted sentiment. Go to Full Review

The stories are supposed to have cunning little twists in them, but most offer few surprises. They are like the characters, who very comfortingly always do exactly what is expected of them. Go to Full Review
