Janitor Josh Futturman leads a pretty boring life, spending much of his time playing video games when he's not working. Things change, though, when he beats a video game that the rest of the world has given up on, thinking it was unbeatable. After he defeats the game, mysterious visitors from the future appear. They put the world in danger, and Josh is the only person who can save it. He assembles a team to assist him as he travels through time, completing various missions as he does whatever he can to try to save Earth from the extraterrestrial visitors.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Future Man's nostalgia-driven premise is elevated by the cast's compelling chemistry and a sense of humor just dumb enough to lighten the sci-fi load.

The fact that I've grown to like these characters enough that I wouldn't mind spending a few more hours with them. Go to Full Review

Sometimes, I can laugh just looking at Eliza Coupe's face. The former star of "Happy Endings," originally from New Hampshire, seems to have wryness and absurdity built into her physiognomy. Go to Full Review

There's a level to which the show is progressive - and truly funny! - but that self-awareness only extends to whichever meme is being lampooned in that moment. Otherwise, the jokes now feel woefully mistimed. Go to Full Review

The chemistry between the main cast is apparent in their comedic timing and the warmth of their relationships. By season's end, Josh, Tiger, and Wolf come together as a team, with each character feeling human and fully-formed. Go to Full Review

Future Man's present is strong enough that it deserves to live on-and, if nothing else, there's at least one man in it with an amazing comic future ahead of him. Go to Full Review

Maybe Future Man doesn't recreate the actual gaming experience so well. But the part about being a fan and surrounding yourselves with other people who get your love, share it and appreciate it? That's on the money. Go to Full Review

Penny S Nov 22 I put this on as a bit of light viewing this afternoon. It was ok until, excited at winning the video game level, he drops his trousers whilst sitting at the console and is clearly masturbating. Not funny! Not needed! Don’t let your kids watch it! See more Hal G Jun 30 This show is so bad it's good, it feels like you're watching a B-movie with a cult following that nobody told you about. The first two seasons were wild and hilarious, lots of 'dumb' jokes but they don't pretend like they're not dumb jokes, they dial into the ridiculous of it all and it works. If you like video games, sci-fi, and crass humor you'll probably love this show. Unfortunately the show went off the rails in the third season but the first two seasons are gold. See more David W @Sternhammer 12/17/2024 An absolutely hilarious love letter to sci-fi with a great script and chemistry between the characters. Thoroughly enjoyable. Roll on season 2. See more Regal R 12/04/2024 70/100 - this shows story is doodoo but they are great at shock value (most of the time) and the references are solid. See more Joel P 05/18/2024 Stupidly hilarious and unexpectedly well written. Pay close attention for the movie and TV references.
