Critic Reviews for Goliath Season 1

All Critics (37) | Top Critics (18)

Given all the loose-ended, bizarro world TV dramas currently in play, it turns out to be a distinct pleasure to review a limited series with a linear storyline and a definitive ending.

Goliath isn't a groundbreaker by any means - it bears some resemblance to Glenn Close's Damages - but it's a solidly entertaining legal thriller that benefits enormously from Billy Bob Thornton's strong lead

If you're struggling with all the sci-fi weirdness of Westworld and never quite got Orphan Black, you will love the straightforward thrills of Goliath.

What's there so far is... entertaining TV, but steady updates in the upcoming episodes could make Goliath truly mighty.

As a hard-luck lawyer looking to get off the booze and back in the game, his McBride sounds like a stock character, except Thornton... creates someone who's anything but stock... He's the best reason to keep watching.

Bolstered by as A-list a cast as anything on TV (with the exception of Westworld perhaps) and tighter, less showy writing than we've come to expect from Kelley.

Each episode closes with a twist. Whether that twist is big or small, it gives viewers just enough of a push to want to continue disentangling something that runs a bit deeper than your average court case.

[Billy Bob Thornton] carries each scene, trope-laden as they may be (the drinking problem, the cheesy one-liners) with an effortless swagger that's both engaging and exciting.

Compelling, gritty crime series has nudity, cursing, drugs.

Even great casts have their limits, and in the case of Goliath, they give this shaggy drama just enough electricity to keep interest without offering a genuine reason to care about what's going on.

Audience Reviews for Goliath: Season 1

I did not think I would like this show, but watched it because of the reviews. I think I have to agree that the show is good. The overall story is fairly simple, the plot twists are good and the script written well. BIlly Bob does a good job in the show. Not sure why, but he always seems to surprise me. I suppose by now I should know he is a good actor. I enjoyed the show and the underdog aspect of it.

Love this show! After the first episode I could not stop smiling because I love Billy Bob and he does not disappoint!

Good show but with some what lack-luster scripts. dialogue could use a lot of work.

Season one had a terrible ending... I was waiting see them get some real good dirt but in the end it was pretty lame

Disappointing. The underlying case is relatively weak for a full-season drama but this was the least of the things that affected Goliath overall. The legal thriller has no outstanding courtroom drama. The villains are clownish, and are defeated by their own vanity-filled stupidity - as well as frail bodies - rather than any investigative brilliance or smart legal trickeries by the end. The good guys' underdog potential or supposedly charming human frailties/idiosyncracies also go completely unexploited.

A great show with a stellar cast! Looking forward to season 3!!

Amazing show that’s hard to stop so watch it over and entire weekend! The last episode is fantastic and really should be followed by the previous two episodes. All the actors are amazing, even those that are annoying in the beginning become the glue that makes it all stick :)

Amazing find on Amazon Watched both seasons in a matter of days. We both loved the characters portrayed in it and the storyline. It wasn't predictable as some shows typically are. Great how each season had a different story to follow with new characters and the quirks of the bad guys really made the story so different than your typical suspense /mystery crime drama. Can't wait for season 3 and it's only been a month Hurry up Goliath

2.5 = Slog; 3.0 = Tolerable; 3.5 = Fun Enough; 4.0 = Satisfactory; 4.5 = Good; 5.0 = Great, or Underrated.

Season 1 was excellent. It was fast paced, exciting and kept you gripped. We were hooked. Season 2 had an interesting but much more convoluted (unnecessarily) plot line. The story was interesting and some of the characters very compelling. However there was way too much gore and sexual depravity which diminished the story line. The cast Billy, Patty, Brittney and Denise are incredible. They are complex and rich. The actors in Season 1 were fun to love and gate. The cast from season 2 were all so despicable which is successful but they were too depraved. If you are squeamish Do NOT watch season 2
