Critics Consensus

Delightfully uncomfortable, Harlots continues to push boundaries, but never at the expense of its deliciously campy fun.

It seems that the Wells girls can finally free themselves of their mother's feud, helped by allies such as Lady Fitz (Liv Tyler). In its third season, "Harlots" maintains everything that has made it occasionally difficult to watch...but those aspects are what makes this series worthwhile since they also pay off with insight, spirit, and cheeky humor.

Harlots' second season was better than the first, and this one could make you flip your powered wig.

If you haven't heard by now, Harlots, a Hulu Original period piece, is the most feminist television programming out there...As the series has done in other seasons, it's all about survival...

Harlots proves it can still do what it does best, which is explore its themes with humor as it gives its female characters some very real obstacles without reducing them to outright victims.

A thrilling, brainy bodice-ripper that combines the epic wordplay of Shakespeare, the ruthless political survivalism of Machiavelli and the gutting sentimentality of Mario Puzo.

In a world of arson, hangings, incest, bare-knuckle boxing, molly houses and murderous cults, the fact that Harlots still manages to keep its viewers on their toes is a true testament to its greatness.

Audience Reviews for Harlots: Season 3

...just a massive let down! Plot threads that were painstakingly woven into Season 2 (the best so far) were either cut or left as threads in service of an unnecessary narrative of Margaret Well's well documented incompetence as a mother and as a leader. ...and they killed my Bae in the least dramatic way imaginable (just unforgivable).

The mark of a good show, to me, is when I cannot predict what will happen next (rare) and can fall in love with complex characters without ever thinking about their 'acting'. I also know it's good if it keeps me from multi-tasking. 100% rapt, I found this one also has deeply intriguing and intertwining plot lines. The last episode gave me chills....it wasn't the first time. And now I'm disappointed that it seems the series is over.

Brilliantly campy and gaudy, fast-paced, irreverent, unashamed expression of the feminine libido and body. Great representation.

Harlots, a Hulu original, never fails to amaze me. Within every new episode I never know what to expect, and the powerful story line consisting of strong women and the struggles of living in 18th century London is what makes this show so ethereal and quite beguiling. It snags at the heartstrings and surpasses all expectations. One of Hulu's best shows yet.

As both a young adult and lover of period dramas, I constantly find myself struggling to get my friends to watch my "old timey shows" with me. Harlots is the first one that I've been able to watch with them (without a glazed look in their eyes) not only because of its sharp witted characters and decadent sex scenes, but because of its refreshingly raw and darkly funny portrayal of disenfranchised peoples. Yet the persecution these women, people of color, and queer people face neither drives their complex characters nor inhibits them from experiencing their own identities and relating them to others. Their many painful experiences are not pushed to the side as mere historical fact but deeply ingrained into the close race between humor and horror that makes this show so sincere. I unfortunately have binged the entire show in the past week and a half, and cannot wait for next week's episode!
