A soldier, Tom Hobbes, gets in way over his head when he's recruited for a government-sponsored war game involving flesh-and-blood people, digital representations of those people, and entities that look real but exist only in a virtual reality universe, known as Harsh Realm, now ruled by the clever retired sergeant major, Omar Santiago.
