An impressive small-screen debut for Julia Roberts, Homecoming balances its haunting mystery with a frenetic sensibility that grips and doesn't let go.

Movie superstar Julia Roberts crushes here, benching her legendary smile - mostly - to play a frazzled, damaged administrator discovering the dark side of a corporate-run program for veterans.

It brilliantly captures the essence of the military compound and Heidi's place in it. And look out for a remarkable long tracking shot that begins on the exterior and somehow brings us in via a large fish tank mounted in a wall...

The result is a television series that's frequently breathtaking.

This is a well-executed mystery that avoids a lot of the pitfalls of both mystery shows and science-fiction-tinged shows: it's not overdetermined, it's not overcomplicated, and it's not suddenly upending itself.

Whigham's portrayal of Carrasco is the most compelling. He provides a strong rooting interest as a dogged investigator who's seen as just another nameless underling by his condescending boss.

It's a pleasure to see Roberts stretch her legs on TV, particularly in her scenes opposite James, where her heart is most evident. The two clearly have a strong chemistry... and they are surrounded by a fine supporting cast.

Bobby Cannevale is excellent as Colin Belfast, a manipulative corporate supervisor. Shea Wigham compellingly portrays the earnest federal investigator Thomas Carrasco.

This is as enthralling a mystery series as any of the more high-profile efforts that have been buzzed about over the last few years.

There is an excellent aesthetic here and wonderful performances, but one can't help but feel like the series becomes predictable. [Full Review in Spanish]

Homecoming is a visually lush exploration of trauma, memory, and the human heart vs. the mind.

Ominous as a Hitchcock film; beautifully photographed as a De Palma film. Julia Roberts best performance possibly ever. Everything about this series is first rate

A slow burner yes but so satisfying, both emotionally and in terms of plot, by the time the characters come home.

Very basic stuff. Literally nothing happens. Another one in the long line of moody, gloomy and atmospheric tv shows that rely on creating a latent feeling of anxiety in the viewer rather than plot twists and serious ideas. Will do to pass the time if you're ironing or something.

So well shot, amazing musical score, gripping and haunting. Absolutely loved it... The ends of each episode were great as they just let the camera run like real life.. Can't wait to watch Season 2.

I was not psychologically thrilled. I kept waiting for something devious and it was just corporate america doing what it does. Her mama knew it from the beginning. She knew something was shady to take someone so inexperienced and give them a job of Importance. The whole show is about Julia's character realizing shes been used as a patsy. I dont know if I will watch season 2 or not. Is this going to be a "Lost" kind of show that hints theres something bigger and you just keep getting bleh?

Loved it. What a wonderful surprise. One of the best shows in Prime!

Loved it, the age differential is a bit hard to believe but the series is phenomenal.

I can't respect any movie or show that has to steal from Chariots of Fire for their music score. They took a song from one of the most beautiful moments in Chariots of Fire, when Abrams wins the race, and place it under a very pedestrian, boring, 2-person scene where people just sit in chairs talking. Clearly the creators and director not only don't know visual storytelling, but they have no problem spoiling a great piece of music and placing it under one of the most banal and uneventful scenes I've ever seen Julia Roberts act in. This is pure pablum. I just want to retch.

Excellent Season 1 - cannot wait to watch and find out more next!

Homecoming never hooked me from the start - it never gave me initial reason to care about the mystery, and at the end I was left thinking "so what?". Huge bummer for a mystery show. Interestingly shot and edited, but the music was overbearing to the point of being cheesy. Was excited to watch the show but ended up being quite disappointed. Many other shows have done this genre better.

If there's one thing a thriller requires in order to be a thriller it's a climax, in the show is missing that 1 thing. The first 8 episodes were really good. I could not wait to see what happened. Unfortunately, nothing happened! No intense encounters, no real consequences for the wrong doers, no thrilling moments. Nothing but peaceful (dare I say) resolution? This is not real life! It's a show! We watch to be entertained! It felt like the writers of the show quit after 8 episodes, and somebody different wrote the last two episodes just to give us an ending. It was terrible. This show was heading for 4.5 stars and was instead, lucky to finish with 3.

Exceptional pilot season that tackles both futuristic/real life scenarios and difficult issues while keeping you on your toes for the entire season. Sam Esmail knocked it out of the park (as always).
