What to Know

Critics Consensus

As stylish, well-acted, and compelling as it can be, Homecoming's second season simply can't find its way out of the shadow of the first.

In Season 2, Janelle Monae ably steps into her shoes, and Season 1 stand-out Hong Chau gets the bigger role she deserves. Go to Full Review

The plot of both is interesting but not exceptional. It's all the other crucial but often underplayed elements that make Homecoming so memorable. Go to Full Review

This role was made for Janelle Monáe, I just wish the show's writing matched her talents. Go to Full Review

Homecoming is all about the full experience, a transportative dream that sinks deep into your psyche. Go to Full Review

...sometimes it's OK to put the pressure for ambitious greatness on hold for a minute and just enjoy something. As you'd expect, Janelle Monáe guarantees a certain base level of that. Go to Full Review

Ailsa M 10/31/2024 A jarring disconnect from Season 1. May stand on its own feet as an independent series but doesn't build well on the established dynamic. Your loyalty to the show may depend on which story you wanted to see continued. See more David W 08/20/2024 Not as popular as its first season, Homecoming’s second season is criticized for deviating too far from the tone and focus of the first. But perhaps because I had mixed feelings about the first season, I found the new tone and faster pace to be a welcome change. It renewed my interest in the series, and I might watch this season again or the next one if it’s ever made. See more Gareth v @geewah 06/24/2023 A clever second season that flows on well from it's predecessor. It still maintains that sense of mystery and subterfuge that Sam Esmail does so well. See more Corey W 02/15/2023 The acting prowess of Janelle Monáe isn't enough to save this messy, rambling, and predictable season two. See more El H 10/22/2022 Season 2 vs Season 1 - even though the story and timeline are maintained, it feels like I'm watching a very different series. The pace, mood and characters have changed - it moves from an emotional journey to a thriller, more fast-paced action series. The production rules from Season 1 no longer seem to apply and it becomes more of a traditional show (no more changing of screen ratio) - a bit like watching a season of 24. It doesn't ruin the series, but it does detract from some of the production quality of the first Season 1 - watch it to get closure for Series 1, but it won't be as satisfying - the ending was a bit ridiculous - nobody thought it was a bit suspicious that the "drink" they all decided to have at the party was red? I've never been to a party where everyone who is drinking different drinks (beer, wine, etc.) suddenly decides to change and start drinking a weird red beverage out of a steel mug! See more tom m 01/10/2022 Seasons 1-2. I was first introduced to this story by a podcast which was an 'audio play' of it. The podcast was very well done. The cinematic adaptation was okay.
