Critic Reviews for Homeland Season 6

All Critics (28) | Top Critics (16)

The end result was a patchy and incoherent story that was salvaged by Lesli Linka Glatter's taut direction of the suspenseful finale.

Yup, it's my own fault for getting on board in the first place back in January. Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in, then put me to sleep.

The setting suits the downscaled ambitions of the once indispensable, now reliably watchable Showtime series.

The first two episodes promise a contemplative sixth as opposed to a shock-and-awe one. Carrie - I think we can all agree - deserves the breather.

It's a solid enough re-start to a series that Showtime already has renewed for two more seasons beyond this one.

Obama's political struggles give way to the debauchery of the Trump era. To a White House that looks more Veep than Homeland. Stranger than fiction. [Full Review in Spanish]

This season was so on the money and of the moment one wondered if it had been written by clairvoyants.

Still, I enjoy the slow scene-setting and anticipate that Homeland's tales of a terror-besieged state will be necessary escapism as we succumb to the coming darkness. It's the calm before the stupid, basically.

Suddenly the show's vision of the intelligence community and the administration it answers to looks like something out of 'The West Wing.'

Season six may work as escapism if nothing else.

I'm torn. Plot wise it's by far the best episode so far, you can't have enough well-done stories about deep state working against its own government. Unfortunately idea-wise the show degenerated into a series of ham-fisted liberal talking points. Shame. Btw was this season shot before Trump was elected? It's as if it counted on the first female president being elected and the deep state conspiring against her. Instead it was Trump being a target of elements within the deep state, constant press leaks etc. A nice irony huh?

My fave season, Dar Adal is unleashed and leaves you clueless with all the plays, charades and lies.
  • Sep 09, 2018
    Dark, suspenseful, complex.

Couldn't stop watching. Good story and acting all around.

Why did this show turn into just another shill for liberal viewpoints. SO disappointing.
  • Mar 02, 2018
This is not believable at all. Carrie's behavior goes completely against her character, training, and experience and makes her look like a naive irrational overly liberal idiot. Quinn is also cast as an idiot, as he was last season, instead of portraying him as the highly trained, experienced, and intelligent professional that he is. Neither he nor Carrie would make the dumb decisions in real life that they do in Seasons 6 and 7. This season, is a huge disappointment! I don't want to continue watching it.

Compelling and intriguing. I can’t stop watching this season.

Wow, didn't see this coming. Although, I suppose it was signaled in season five. But Homeland has gone full circle, from an intelligent, tension filled drama and character study ... to a silly partisan joke. So sorry and sad to see what they did with last season. Just really dumb.

The new role for Carry is annoying

Thank you for depicting your only LGBT character as a creepy treasonous murdering pedophile predator! Of course, LGBT people are as imperfect as everyone else but the flaw here should be apparent. Like depicting the only African American character as an abusive pimp or drug dealer. Very 1970s, reinforcing stereotypes. I gave it 4 stars anyway because I do like this show but it's disappointing to see this unfold. My suggestion to the writers is to watch the documentary The Celluloid Closet, so you might understand how you've contributed to a century of bigotry in movies and television. Reinforcing existing prejudices.
