With its sapphire sea, abundance of dress whites and linen trousers, and jazz-infused score, Hotel Portofino makes for a relaxing getaway. It’s the kind of series that invites you to relax and spend some quality time basking in its well-coiffed drama. Go to Full Review

Catnip for fans of British period TV, it looks stunning, is built around the beautiful Italian setting and is a frock-opera of epic proportion. It is piffle, but perfect piffle. Go to Full Review

In a way, Hotel Portofino is the kind of glitzy guilty pleasure I needed this summer. It transports the viewer to the turquoise waters, white-sand beaches and narrow cobblestone streets of the Ligurian fishing town. Go to Full Review

Caroline B Apr 5 Really enjoyable storylines, quite downton abbey-esque. I particularly enjoyed the beautiful scenery. See more Chris P 09/26/2024 It looks amazing but the writing is horrible. See more Sachi P 09/22/2024 The shots of the charming Italian village perched on the seaside hills of Italy in summer are the only reason this show has any stars. I found myself not caring about ANY of the characters or the plot. They are all actively horrible people and/or just completely bland. The costuming is not good. You can vaguely tell it’s meant to be the 1920’s, but the terrible hair styles make you second guess that. I guess the only reason I watched through the whole season is to pretend I’m on vacation at the hotel, but I had no interest in the obnoxious guests or the pesky fascists who kept trying to ruin my summer at the hotel. I love a good political theme, but this was pure escapism so I didn’t want the show to go there (it barely did anyways and was super uninteresting). Maybe I should just watch a tourism ad next time. SPOILER ALERT: I’m guessing the writers want us to care about the main character, but her hair is so bad that it is distracting. I don’t feel sorry for her at all when she gets slapped (and somehow has scrapes on her face from the slap?) because she has been cheating this whole time, but they never even delve into that relationship, who the guy even is or how she feels, so why would we care? Then when her husband apologizes, in a girl-boss moment she decides she’s going to live by her own rules, but she’s been doing that the entire time so it feels really contrived. And that’s supposed to be the climactic ending of the season? Blegh. See more Lew A 08/23/2024 Cripes this was awful! The acting, plot, especially the direction. I suffered through episode 1 tinging it's on PBS so it must be good. Dreck. See more Emm E 08/21/2024 This is a silly rip-off of Dowtown Abbey set in Italy. “Bella,” the main character, is blander than a dressed-up potato - the actor’s wig is obvious and she tries unsuccessfully to “face act,” relying heavily on her big blue eyes and perfectly lipsticked mouth, but the result is B O R I N G. Everything is too pretty and contrived, and the acting consists of sipping tea and giving side-eye. You can guess who will hook up with whom during the first episode. Skip it unless you are recovering from the flu or a bad car accident. See more Martha 07/29/2024 Hotel Portofino on PBS is stupid. Do not bother to watch. It is very unsatisfactory. I would say it seems like it was written by a 5th grader but that is too insulting to 5th graders! Characters are two dimensional, shallow, and undeveloped. Story line is chaotic and disjointed. Poorly written. PBS Programming is really going downhill at an accelerated speed! See more Read all reviews
