News & Interviews for I Am Not Okay With This: Season 1
Thin at times, but never losing sight of its hook, it avoids many of the pitfalls that its premise could present.
"Okay" suffers from the same bloat as far too many streaming shows; its 140 minutes contain at most 90 minutes worth of material.
I Am Not Okay with This works so well because of how deftly the creators and cast balance [its] character beats with a breakneck plot that unfolds in only about 140 minutes.
Lillis, already a proven performer at just 18, deploys her expressive blue eyes effectively, whether emoting under a voiceover or deciding if she can trust Stan with her deepest, darkest secrets.
I Am Not Okay With This boasts of many threads to keep us hooked and hungry for more.
There's been a distinct lack of discussion on Sydney's queerness and, frankly, it's refreshing.
I Am Not Okay With This is an easy-to-watch coming-of-age series backed by a great soundtrack featuring songs by The Kinks, Karen Dalton, and more that seem to perfectly and magically meld with the show's visuals.
But likable and capable as the cast are, the overall effect is slight. It feels like eating in a John Hughes theme restaurant.
Unique, quirky, and affecting, I Am Not Okay WIth This never reaches the spectacular heights it could. But it features enough standout storytelling and some phenomenal lead performances that carry it through until the gobsmacking climax.
Audience Reviews for I Am Not Okay With This: Season 1
Feb 01, 2021I am not OK with this thing having a higher than 5/10 rating. It just imitates various elements of much better teen shows but brings no "meat" of its own, it's just empty and pointless when all is said and done. Like someone else said, her little brother is the only actually likable character in all of it.
Jan 16, 2021"I Am Not Okay with This" is an entertaining and unique take on teenage angst. I think the show is okay overall but it really had a solid finale. I really wish this show wasn't canceled, because it left me eager for a second season. The show is intriguing and easy to binge on since it isn't very long. It's mostly just a shame because it doesn't work as a one-season series and the cancellation doesn't really make a lot of sense considering it was fairly well received.
Jan 01, 2021I'm not okay with this virus and the ripple effect of it. Loved this and was sad to find out there will not be second season. This GenX queen adored the dark humor, musicians, and characters.
Dec 26, 2020First thing first, the performance in this movie is nothing but great all over, music choices is funky, the atmosphere is gritty, blunt and raw. A few episode in the series is quite clever to keep it's viewer to be curious about the deep of the story all the time whether is about main characters is just some sides we barely see in the scene. Unfortunately my biggest issue from this series is the result of how airtight the story is, for overall 7 episodes with each contain 19-28 minutes runtime is not enough to flashed out the pivotal character background which is become more unfortunate after I read the second season is getting cancelled, I encounter a lot of shows with questionable ending which I guess pretty common nowadays for a series because the studio wants to keep people coming back for more but this series first season definitely one the most disjointed last episode. Did I still recommend to checking it out? yes!, it's has a solid base for it's story, maybe if enough people stream it, Netflix could be considering to revive it's second season production and make this "Stranger Things" mixed with "The End of the F***ing World"-vibe to reach it's potential to be wicked and awesome.
Dec 24, 2020I Am Not Okay With This feels like Netflix combined Sixteen Candles and Stranger Things. A great high school drama with the added supernatural suspense.
Dec 21, 2020A coming-of-age tale about the explosive journey through adolescence, with the added power of something super! Lol. Lillis' awkwardness, fumbling, and confusion all seem palpable, enhancing the strengths of her character even more - those of her personality as much as her emerging superpowers, Poised to be continued over a number of seasons, I just hope the creative team don't lose sight of how solid-a-character Sydney is
Dec 16, 2020I LOVE this show! Sophia Lillis and Wyatt Oleff star in this great show. Both actors are together in the 2 It films from 2017 and 2019. I got some Carrie vibes from this as well. GREAT SHOW!
Dec 16, 2020I really want to see this how so badly and if I do see it then I would rate this website all the way so it gets so many likes if I could watch "I'm Not Okay With This."
Nov 27, 2020Good show. Shows problems that a lot of teenagers are facing but also some fantasy drama. Very sad that there isn't going to be a second season.
Nov 26, 2020The 2 kids from ‘It' movie! This show explores the daily life of two teenagers, Sophia Lillis & Wyatt Oleff, what an interesting chemistry they had. The kind of series to binge: 7 episodes, 20 minutes each, perfect. The ending is interesting too, supposedly a great buildup for the upcoming season, but sadly it is canceled | follow us at @uncle.review
