I Am Not Okay With This: Season 1 (2020)

Season 1
I Am Not Okay With This

Critics Consensus

As awkward and charming as adolescence, but with twice the supernatural twists, I Am Not Okay With This' first season at times veers into shallow territory, but Sophia Lillis' strong performance keeps it afloat.

Critic Reviews for I Am Not Okay With This Season 1

All Critics (64) | Top Critics (19)

"Okay" suffers from the same bloat as far too many streaming shows; its 140 minutes contain at most 90 minutes worth of material.

I Am Not Okay with This works so well because of how deftly the creators and cast balance [its] character beats with a breakneck plot that unfolds in only about 140 minutes.

Thin at times, but never losing sight of its hook, it avoids many of the pitfalls that its premise could present.

It's just really cool, she (Sidney) is just like this angry emotional troubled teenage girl.

A great mix of ingredients. And a great result for teenage drama with a supernatural twist. [Full review in Spanish].

Netflix's I Am Not Okay With This is a genre-defying coming-of-age tale that will leave you begging for a second season.

Netflix's latest adorable teen show is everything I didn't know I needed right now.

Although predictable and derivative, the performances, references and tributes, as well as an excellent soundtrack, make of I Am Not Okay With This a good option. [Full Review in Spanish]

Impeccably acted, agile, short, and with an explosive ending - in more ways than one - "I Am Not Okay With This" is a show that really deserves a second season. [Full review in Spanish]

I Am Not Okay with This is still a great show that feels both familiar and refreshing, twisting the formula of superhero origin story and using it to deal with a relevant exploration of teenagers dealing with their emotions.

So despite perhaps struggling to become its own thing in its first series, I Am Not Okay With This is a likeable and entertaining watch - well worth a go for fans of coming-of-age stories.

It's thanks to Sophia Lillis and the brilliant soundtrack created by Graham Coxon that the series manages to overcome its weak points and to distinguish itself from others. [Full Review in Spanish]

Audience Reviews for I Am Not Okay With This: Season 1

This superhero origin story doesn't offer much in originality, except that the catalyst for transformation is a female teen's sexuality. And, I am more than okay with that. It's about time. This is a fun, easy watch that will leave you anticipating season two as soon as the final episode fades to black.

The way it approach is pretty boring when they can just make a movie throughout. Far away the track since episode 5. But thankful to Sophia Lillis and Wyatt Oleff. I am not okay with this will keep audiences head to the second season. At some point, it's feel like you can just predict what happen next if you focused on since the beginning, the weird chemistry between Syd and Lina make it a lots more overwhelming. And it feels like 140 minutes of the first season only to get audiences's attention to the second one before it launches

It might be perfect bingeing for tweens, but the characters feel a bit thin. To make watching another Superhero Show compelling, and more than a just (another) guilty pleasure, I Am Not OK With This needs fleshing out. Season 2 will be worth a look-see.

Have to praise Sophia Lillis and Wyatt Oleff both are excellent in this show. Worth a watch, it's a decent binge.

Awesome show with amazing plot and cast

Boring. First of all, not a fan of these short 20-minute episodes x 7. They could have just made a movie out of it. Making a series out of it doesn't bring much added value, there's not much more storyline and deepness in it anyways. Secondly, didn't laugh once. Also didn't exhaled through my nose. Also, it's like a soft, badder version of 'The end of the f*cking world'. And the superpower part doesn't bring anything to the story. For now at least. Should have waited for more content or money to make a decent season.

the show's potential lies in it's future
  • Mar 25, 2020
the show is very good, however, the plot is too over stretched and the entirety of season 1 proved nothing more than a cock tease for the second season.
  • Mar 23, 2020
The plotline was pretty entertaining and the cinematography really well thought out. Not a huge fan of any of the characters though. I think they could've been written a bit better with more depth to their personalities and lives. Some parts of the dialogue seem really contrived and unnatural, like when they're in detention in the gym and the weird goth girl (Jenny?) is talking smack.
