Somewhere between MI5, MI6 and the malfunctioning third-floor printer at the U.K.'s labyrinthine Government Communications Headquarters, an arrogant, maverick NSA liaison arrives from the U.S. to join a ragtag bureaucracy of cybersecurity misfits. With all the swagger of John Wayne and none of the substance, the Yankee liaison enlists the help of a junior systems analyst in a workplace power grab. It's a move that threatens to upend the team's directives -- if only it weren't miraculously, possibly completely coincidentally, leading to actual crisis aversion. From a cat lady and former Nobel Prize nominee with a graying head of witch-like hair to a notorious hacker whose first pet was a wolf named Wolf, the unpolished experts at GCHQ thrive under Jerry's assumed authority while nerding out over dinosaur pencil toppers and cryptocurrency.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Intelligence favors schtick over character development, leaving its capable cast stranded in a sea of one liners in search of some character development.

If you're a connoisseur of British spy dramas you will find some of the jokes very amusing. Go to Full Review

The series, which has already aired in the U.K., is an attempt at a cringe comedy but can't find any humor in its awkward, tasteless jokes, and no amount of scenery chewing from Schwimmer can save it. Go to Full Review

Most of the characters, including Joseph and the pre-existing staff, are presented as so inept you have to wonder how they've kept their jobs, and yet they still somehow manage to complete the complicated work put in front of them. How? Go to Full Review

It takes chutzpah to marry the traditional workplace comedy to the ubiquitous spy genre. Go to Full Review

Jo P Mar 12 I love innovative comedy but I don't think it all has to be cutting edge. There is an undercurrent of snobbery as to what's funny and what isn't these days and I'm unsurprised at the pans from the 'professional' critics. Sometimes, at the end of a stressful day, I just want to switch off and enjoy some silly, good fun. Intelligence certainly ticked those boxes for me. I thought David Schwimmer was laugh out loud funny in it, which was refreshing, because I found Ross a hugely irritating character. Which is a prime example of comedy being the most subjective of all the tv genres. I'm quite disappointed they cancelled it, especially one episode in to series 3. See more Mark B 02/07/2025 So I get why some people won’t like this. Comedy is always a matter of taste. Personally I found this laugh out loud funny more often than most main stream comedy around these days. It’s not a new concept, it doesn’t try to break the mould. In many ways it’s old fashioned. It reminds me a bit of the Fast Show and really old stuff like Allo Allo. It’s silly, perhaps even zany, not at all worthy- which at the moment is an absolute Godsend. You can laugh or turn over. I laughed. See more Rachel S 01/27/2025 I can’t believe this is so slated. I laughed out loud so much. Can’t believe I’ve never seen it before. David Schwimmer is hilarious. As are the rest of the cast with fab appearances by Morgana Robinson, Diane Morgan and Jennifer Saunders. Brilliant script from Nick Mohammed… before his Ted Lasso appearance. See more Paul D 01/02/2025 Not even remotely funny. I'm shocked that they made three seasons of this drivel. See more Jack S 12/26/2024 Genuinely hilarious. Brilliant script, awkward and delightful. I've never been a friends fan, but David Schwimmer is an excellent over-the-top NSA agent, Nick Mohamed rocks it as the loser GCHQ dogsbody. Five stars! See more Jonathan H 06/21/2023 This show is incredibly silly but also incredibly funny. You've never seen David Schwimmer as over-the-top and hilarious as he is in this show! All the other actors/characters are pretty good, too, especially Nick Mohammed (best known from Ted Lasso). See more Read all reviews
