Critics Consensus

Interrogation's "interactive" qualities are interesting, but ultimately get in the way of what could be a satisfying dramatic experience.

Critic Reviews for Interrogation Season 1

All Critics (14) | Top Critics (4)

The crime drama lets you watch its middle eight episodes in any order, but it's more powerful as a straightforward story.

Top Critic

The show can be a little overheated, especially toward the top, but at most moments, something interesting is going on on-screen, and there are some fine, subtle performances among a smattering of less subtle ones.

Feb 11, 2020 | Full Review…

The most disappointing aspect of Interrogation may be the writers' reluctance to peddle uncertainty.

Feb 7, 2020 | Full Review…

Ambitious, non-linear true crime show is edgy, satisfying.

Mar 23, 2020 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

It's well-acted with great dialogue and direct lending to some really great and compelling performances. The series is a well-executed yet innovative true-crime series that leaves you guessing.

Interrogation couldn't have properly existed a decade ago, and thus John Mankiewicz & Anders Weidemann deserve special credit for trying something new, especially under the CBS umbrella.

Perhaps more frustrating is that some of our time in the '80s is given to us free of a person's recollection of events.

Feb 25, 2020 | Rating: 2/5 | Full Review…

Ultimately, not unlike the case explored by the detectives, accused killers, and put-upon lawyers of Interrogation, the show doesn't necessarily prove what it's actively trying to prove (crime dramas are interesting if you can choose your own fate).

Feb 25, 2020 | Rating: 2/5 | Full Review…

So, while I highly recommend Interrogation for the way the crime and its aftermath unfolds and the dedicated performances by its talented cast, I have to recommend that you watch in order.

Feb 25, 2020 | Rating: 4.25/5 | Full Review…

We have no confidence that this mix-and-match episode format is anything more than a gimmick and will just lead to confused viewers.

Feb 7, 2020 | Full Review…

The deeper you dig, the more Interrogation becomes an unusually compelling tragedy of a family shattered by Mary's murder and Eric's conviction.

Feb 6, 2020 | Full Review…

The idea of a Choose Your Own Adventure approach to a crime procedural is certainly exciting on paper; it's a true disappointment that it doesn't work in execution.

Audience Reviews for Interrogation: Season 1

Loved this show! Binged in two days. I don't think the "pick an episode" is unsettling. We watched in the order provided. It is meant to revisit the case as a cold case detective would and as stated, it is not explored in linear order. The fact that it was not presented linear, gave me more to ponder, in my opinion. True Crime stories are my passion and this show did not disappoint. I did not come away from this show with an absolute opinion of guilt or innocence. It's an interesting watch and extremely well written and acted.

This is an interesting concept for a series. The acting at times is a little wooden but overall it is really good.
