Slick R @SlickReviewer 08/26/2024 People out here don't realize just how elite the fight choreography is on this show. Especially with the swords. The only other show that rivals Into The Badlands with the fighting choreo was "Warrior" which was originally on Cinemax, then moved to HBO. All these reviewers rating it so low would rather watch their lame Star Wars series with the worst fighting ever. It's like Disney refused to hire the best sword/light saber choreographers for their $500 million budget series. And yes, I am saying that Into The Badlands fight scenes blow away any fight sequences in any Star Wars movie or series, and even better than big budget franchises like John Wick and Jason Statham movies. It's rare that you get a show where almost every actor on the show fights at an elite level, or at least the camera angles make it seem that way... Regarding the story line it's a little cheesy, but the fighting more than makes up for it IMO. The cast remains solid, with Nick Frost continuing to steal the show as Bajie, the thief with a heart of gold, while new addition Babou Ceesay is nicely menacing as Pilgrim, the new villain of the series. Behind the camera, show runners Gough & Millar build on the overall story but add a little bit too much mythology, making it a bit confusing at times. While the larger story benefits from a bigger season at 16 episodes, it still gets a bit convoluted at times. Thankfully, there is still plenty of cool action, the hallmark of the series, to keep you busy. Overall, a fun binge on Netflix.
