Anyone who watches nature shows with any regularity, especially those set in Africa among the Big Five (lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants and Cape buffalo) will find that “Lion” conforms to most of the conventions... the conceit is novel, though. Go to Full Review

Breathtaking visuals are a worthy hallmark of this four-part documentary series following a cub’s ascent into adulthood on the Kenyan plains. Go to Full Review

I wonder how much the usual National Geographic or Disneynature audience will be entertained with the series, though, since its lengthy timespan and premise make it play more scientific than narrativized, even with the cub grows up to be a king conceit. Go to Full Review

Poorvi S @RT32101827 Sep 26, 2026 Wasn't sure what I was getting myself into, but WOW!!! IT IS SO AMAZING! wonderfully made, each episode makes you wanna jump right into the next, the visuals are stunning, really makes you wonder how it has been filmed so brilliantly, the music by hans zimmer literally makes you understand what time of day it is without opening your eyes!!! It is a must watch for anyone who loved Lion King! It really touched my heart and the mother son bond was an added bonus ❤️❤️ See more Johann D. M @Johann33 Sep 12, 2026 #Lion 🦁 MAJESTIC AND EXTRAORDINARY!! With its stunning cinematography and remarkably intimate footage, this feels less like a traditional nature documentary and more like a real-life epic. The storytelling is particularly engaging because we follow the same lion and his family over such a long period, making their victories and tragedies feel surprisingly personal. The parallels with The Lion King are also impossible to ignore, especially with Jon Favreau and Hans Zimmer involved, but the real-life events are often even more dramatic than fiction. The narration and music add to the cinematic quality without taking away from the animals themselves. Beautifully filmed, fascinating, and occasionally heartbreaking, Lion is another impressive example of how nature documentaries can turn wildlife into an extraordinary story of family, survival, and the circle of life. See more R T @RT35864088 Aug 29, 2026 Lion is extraordinary. We were immediately engaged in this beautiful and emotional story about Kio, the Lion cub. The cinematography is amazing. A perfect way to disconnect from the world and learn how these beautiful creatures navigate life. See more Charles E @Charicia Aug 29, 2026 Five star shooting and editing completely undone by some of the worst nature doc narration ever written, with voice-over work as bad as the writing. The anthropomorphizing, some of which is expected in a nature series like this, is so cloying, over-the-top and just-plain-dumb, you feel like you need to check your brains at the door in order to watch this. Which is a real shame, and everyone's loss, because what has been captured on-camera is truly spectacular and I wanted to know so much more about what I was watching, but the writing was too busy turning every scene into some sort of cute Disney cartoon. The voice-over was similarly annoying to the point that I turned to my wife and said, "Why does every line reading have to sound like someone's about to die any minute." Ugh. My condolences to the cinematographers and editors on this series who did truly outstanding work. I was ready to give up completely after the first episode, but maybe I'll watch the rest with the TV on mute. See more Angela P @AngelPretzel Aug 29, 2026 Fantastic, heartwarming, and heart-wrenching. Be prepared to both chortle and cry. Buffaloes hurt lions twice...painful and brutal. Just FYI. My favourite land animal. I love their profiles, as well as their communal bonding. See more Cody W @Cwalton1994 Aug 28, 2026 Extremely captivating and beautifully shot, LION is one of the most amazing documentaries ever made, thanks to its incredible music and wonderful storytelling.
