Locke & Key: Season 1 (2019 - 2020)

Season 1
Locke & Key

Critics Consensus

Though Locke & Key at times struggles to strike a consistent tone, it captures enough of the essence of its source material to provide a fiendishly fun and sufficiently spooky time.

Rarely does the visual storytelling match the heightened emotional experience of our young heroes.

Even as a distraction, Locke & Key looks like a misfire. The little guy Bode is a captivating character, but not as enchanting as any figure in Stranger Things.

Despite the first-rate production design of the first 10 episodes, the Netflix series seems to be in search of a tonal identity...

Season one ofLocke & Key gives us a feasible starting point for what could be a flourishing new fantasy series.

Feb 18, 2020 | Full Review…

Season one of Locke & Key is... fine. It's decent! At times it's almost outstanding! The only problem is that it pulls its punches, delaying or withholding key pieces of the plot for future installments that aren't yet guaranteed .

Where Joe Hill & Gabriel Rodriguez's graphic novel had blood and guts, this Netflix adaptation swaps in teenybopper romances and faux scares

Netflix seems so certain on a second season being an inevitability that most of the real answers have been prolonged, leaving us with hours of lead-up with little payoff.

The episodes get better over time, and Locke & Key proves to be well-written, entertaining, and spooky.

Feb 10, 2020 | Full Review…

Locke & Key ends up not being the story of a family in a spooky old house, but the story of a forever-expanding cast of cardboard characters gnawing through bad dialogue.

Feb 11, 2020 | Full Review…

The first season was a lot of fun (super dark fun) and it would be nice to see where it goes once it really gets its footing.

Alas, that tonal shift regulates much of Locke & Key's original unhinged diabolical entertainment, and not for the better.

I really liked it! I enjoyed the suspense as well as the character detail. I mostly liked the magic. I'm a closet Harry Potter fan and this series is similar to me somehow.

Just a bit predictable with a touch of bad writing.

Fine adaptation of the series, missed the mark on translating the incredible comic artwork to stream digital.

Locke & Key gets off to a decent start and maintains a good pace until the latter episodes which suffer from cringe-worthy dialogue and illogical character decisions. The story is digestible, but for those of you looking for that extra bit more, it's not fulfilling enough. Something of a missed opportunity.

Minor Spoiler for one Episode. I had never heard of the Locke and Key Comic Series prior to first seeing the trailer for the new series on Netflix. I was intrigued as it appeared to be a Gothic Type Horror and Im always on the lookout for such shows as few exist. I expected a tossup somewhere between Netflix's Sabrina Series and Hill House. Unfortunately, it wasnt even that. Its soooo slow. Going back and forth between the older two siblings school lives with a bit of the story of the house thrown in. The House, the Keys, the family and the history of it all should have been at the forefront for the first season. Where did the keys come from? What is the history of the house? Why arent the two older kids trying to help the youngest find the keys and the origins of the "well lady"? In the show the Well Lady comes after the youngest sibling. At one point she has him out in the front yard demanding keys from him with a wall of fire surrounding them. The older brother makes a feeble attempt at rescue then the next day nothing. These three kids should be working together to figure all this out while Mom continues trying to figure out what happened in the past with their father. Instead the kids are all doing uninteresting random things with their friends. The mom is oblivious to anything because shes over the age of 18. Shes focused on trying to figure out her husband's past but over six episodes were still none the wiser because noone is talking. The older brother is trying to fuel a pointless romance and has little involvement. Its just all unmeaningful noise...filler. I just bought the first book from the comic series. Netflix Off. Ive got some cool and promising reading to do.

Não é surpreendente, mas vale a pena assistir

This show are dumb. These kids do not use google, nor video games, nor any modern technology, but they had a magic Key for every plot hole.
  • 14h ago
Ingenious mystery that involves each family member in a surrealist plot -- all the rage right now. Connor Jessup takes the prize as best actor in a mystery series.

for the first season despite some of the dumb things in general it's acctually good and really enjoyable. (just watch without nitpicking believe me you're gonna enjoy it).
