News & Interviews for Longmire: Season 1
It's about the best combination of substance and style. And when it comes to entertainment, you can't get much cooler than that.
A good plot or interesting characters can be enough for a drama series. Unfortunately, Longmire lacks both.
Longmire is an entirely respectable alternative for anyone who'd rather not spend Monday morning rehashing the latest outrage on Mad Men.
Unassuming Longmire doesn't shout LOVE ME! but instead works its charms subtly, quietly. There's promise here.
Longmire makes a solid overall first impression without rising to the level of critical huzzahs.
It's nicely crafted, as well, with a slower pace than the average police procedural, but more than enough character intrigue to compensate.
What makes Sheriff Longmire so much fun to watch is that he uses his book smarts and cowboy training instead of the latest tech to help him solve crimes.
The series has plenty of room to grow; I left the pilot wanting to know more about all the characters, but especially about Longmire.
Longmire's characters are recognizably human: sometimes noble, sometimes petty, sometimes just doing the best they can in a bad situation.
It's certainly not bad, I'm all for slow-building character studies, but none of the storylines that played out on the premiere, nor any of the arcs teased for future episodes, made me scurry to my remote and set my DVR for Series Recording.
Audience Reviews for Longmire: Season 1
Jan 25, 2020From A&E comes the modern western Longmire. Season 1 follow a Wyoming sheriff named Walt Longmire as he faces re-election running against one of his own deputies and attempts to keep the peace with the neighboring Cheyenne reservation. Starring Robert Taylor, Katee Sackhoff, and Lou Diamond Phillips the show has a solid cast that gives good performances. And there are several interesting guest stars featured, including Peter Weller, John Pyper-Ferguson, and Charles S. Dutton. Additionally, the writers do a good job at developing the characters and at putting a western spin on the crimes. Bold and provocative, Longmire delivers an incredibly strong first season.Dann M Super Reviewer
Feb 25, 2021What a great show! Simple, entertaining and enticing! Acting is superb and the show has a salt of the earth kinda quality to it. No political correctness or identity politics and everyone fits in the story unlike other recent shows where you can see the quota system drives the story rather than the story itself Very refreshing!
Feb 11, 2021Longmire's cases are better written than most police procedurals, and the wild west setting adds a ton of appeal. However the show's characters fail to stand out much, and the leading man is at times a sickeningly perfect tragic hero figure. That being said, Longmire is well worth a run, if you don't mind a slow pace.
Jan 13, 2021Engaging police show in Wyoming with an old-school sheriff. Good character development. Likeable characters. Enough mystery and suspense to keep me interested.
Nov 18, 2020Very enjoyable modern Western.
