"Love, Victor" is set in the world of the groundbreaking movie, "Love, Simon," which was inspired by Becky Albertalli's acclaimed young adult novel, "Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda," about a closeted gay teenager who is forced to come out after being blackmailed. The series stars Michael Cimino as Victor, who, like Simon, is on his own journey of self-discovery. Facing challenges at home, navigating the ups and downs of a new high school and exploring his sexual orientation, Victor reaches out to Simon when things become too difficult.

While Love, Victor gives us a little something sweet, I'm hopeful that the next season will bring something a little bit meatier to viewers of color. Go to Full Review

Love, Victor feels like it really wants to do that, but while the 10 half-hour episodes rarely drag, they also never really dig into all of the issues brought forward. Go to Full Review

The show succeeds just fine on its own - it's charming and clever and gives a few reasons to swoon... It could have represented something bigger, though, rather than standing as yet another example of Disney copping out. Go to Full Review

TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch 01/06/2024 Love, Victor season one is a compelling coming-of-age series that follows Victor navigating his sexuality while dealing with his mother’s negativity and teenage struggles. The season does a great job showing his journey as a slow, realistic process, reflecting the challenges of self-discovery. It tackles real-life issues like bullying, peer pressure, complicated relationships, and the mental health impact of these experiences with authenticity. Secondary stories, like classmates facing their own dilemmas, add depth and show the series isn’t just about Victor. The writing and performances feel genuine, especially Michael Cimino as Victor, capturing the vulnerability, confusion, and courage of a teenager coming to terms with identity. Overall, season one is heartfelt, socially aware, nuanced, and relatable for young viewers facing similar challenges. See more Joo V @RT17481189 08/11/2023 Pleasant, intimate, and true. Michael Cimino is charismatic and has great chemistry with the rest of the cast, who, by the way, are also very good. It is an lgbtqia+ series that addresses the situations of young people who have just come out of the closet and their first crush, in a natural and touching way. See more Johann D. M @Johann33 06/28/2023 🏳️‍🌈 PREDICTABLE BUT CHARMING! A family-friendly teen comedy drama inspired by and set in the same world as the 2018 film Love, Simon, that follows Victor, a new student at Creekwood High School, on his own journey of self-discovery, facing challenges at home, adjusting to a new city, and struggling with his sexual orientation. It is a realistic depiction of what many teenagers have to go through in high school regarding their sexual orientation in today's society, but it is filled with the usual teen tropes and storylines that always end as one would expect them to. But it is a very heartwarming and groundbreaking show with a satisfying first season, and the special appearances of Simon and Bram are very welcome. Some of the acting is cringy, though. See more 08/08/2022 Not as good as its predecessor. The acting of the main lead is a little stilted and honestly...because of that doesn't imbue the same amount of heart and emotion as Love, Simon did. See more Kevin M @RT42807447 07/09/2022 Turning the premise of a successful movie (Love, Simon) into a series could've been a messy disaster or simply disappointing with such a high bar already set. Love, Victor not only had all the charm of its predecessor, it also was clearly it own thing. The characters were approachable, believable - even if they were a little too perfect, and the story felt organic. Thoroughly enjoyable! See more michael s @RT70477509 06/24/2022 Very entertaining positive show about growing up gay in today's society. I'm glad Disney+ has decided to stream this great show. See more Read all reviews
