Me, Myself & I: Season 1 (2017)

Critic Consensus: Me, Myself & I's experimental format doesn't always work, but remains watchable thanks to the charming Bobby Moynihan and John Larroquette.

Tv Season Info

Me, Myself & I tells the story of Alex Riley through three periods in his life: as a teenager (Jack Dylan Grazer), as a newly divorced father (Bobby Moynihan), and as a successful, newly retired inventor (John Larroquette). Teenager Alex adjusts to living with a blended family, with his mother Maggie (Mandell Maughan) marrying Ron (Brian Unger). Soon enough, he makes friends with his new stepbrother Justin (Christopher Paul Richards as a teenager, Ryan Hansen as an adult, and Ed Begley, Jr. as an older man) and his new schoolmate Darryl (Alkoya Brunson as a teenager, Jaleel White as an adult, and Tim Reid as an older man). Adult Alex struggles with picking up the pieces of his life after his divorce while trying to bond with his daughter Abby (Skylar Gray as a girl and Kelen Coleman as an adult). Older Alex, on the other hand, faces a new beginning as a retiree and reconnects with his first love Eleanor (Reylynn Caster as the teenage Nori and Sharon Lawrence as the adult Eleanor).

The opening episode is pleasant enough to watch, although not really very amusing. But the prospects for a sustainable series seem highly limited by all that unfolds here.

Good-hearted, a little too cloying, and the story flow needs polish. Of the three new CBS comedies this fall, this is the most promising.

Me, Myself, & I ... is easily the best fare of the night, and not just because the bar set by the rest of the shows is so low that a midget ant couldn't get under it.

Among the supporting players, Richards brings a fun, "1980s-movie best friend/devil-on-shoulder" energy as teen Alex's stepbrother, while it's White's job to help today's Alex avoid dire levels of patheticism.

This one could have been titled Life in Pieces, too, but it's funnier than that CBS comedy and more creative than Young Sheldon.

The pilot is charming and funny. Just try to ignore that Moynihan is never going to turn into Larroquette.
